Nurturing Ceres/Demeter: the Corn Goddess of the District of Columbia

Friday July 30, 2021: For many Americans, current events transpiring within the District's city limits are head-scratchers now more than ever after four years of Tr*mp, so it seems to me that a study of the founding of Washington DC can gain the curious seeker a more complete understanding of DC's environs and the good and bad actors within, political and otherwise. If one has the time that is!

So although it's only one resource for such specialized study, within the pages of Alan Butler's Washington DC: Chamber of Secrets website lurk many intriguing factoids of a Freemasonic-Sacred Geometry nature concerning the esoteric founding of our nation's capital, the whys and the wherefores. Author Alan Butler published an accompanying book as well: City of the Goddess: the Freemasons, the Sacred Feminine, and the Secret Beneath the Seat of Power in Washington DC (2011) #ad.

Meanwhile, I'm quite certain that many dear readers of SO'W have previously checked into the Eleusinian Mysteries which is what the Mythology of Demeter, Persephone, and Hades (Pluto) are all about. (Rather creepily, America's first-ever Pluto Return/s will occur all through 2022.) So basically I'm saying that many or most of the Masonic founders of America and of Washington DC were of a pagan persuasion and, classically educated, were familiar with the Mysteries of ancient Greece. Then at some point in time, the religious rites at Eleusis had migrated to Rome where 'corn goddess' Demeter was called Ceres, and Persephone was known as Prosperpina. And as you know, the reunion of mother and daughter began the first spring and explained the archetypal concept of death and rebirth, a prominent theme in Freemasonry (and in Christianity but we're talking paganism) and one that no one born upon the Earth can escape. Even now, we can find Virgo and the sign's wheat sheafs of Ceres-Demeter represented in various images and Zodiacs all over the District. And significantly, the signing of the US Constitution on September 17, 1787 was a tribute to the pagan Demeter Mystery rites held annually in Greece on the 17th of September.

Thereby, the signing of the US Constitution can be said to represent the death of the US as a colony and its birth as an independent nation - or, as a symbol of the death of tyranny and the birth of liberty! So in our era we find our Constitution under siege by anti-democratic, unAmerican actors, both foreign and domestic, attempting with all their might to substitute tyranny in place of liberty - in America of all places.

What a rotten exchange that would be!

Power Grab, Social Change, and Violent Upheaval: Uranus-Pluto

January 16, 2021: When I began pointing out in 2020 that the transiting Uranus-Pluto midpoint in mid-Pisces was opposing and triggering the Great Conjunction/s of Uranus and Pluto in mid-Virgo (once in 1965, twice in 1966) from across the victim-savior axis, little could I know that the planetary pair's violent, subversive energies would express physically against the US Congress on January 6, 2021 by what I call the Trump Mob (aka, the MAGA Mob). Civil Rights and other social causes of the mid-1960s bubbled up again, had never gone away nor been properly dealt with, and we were seeing in 2020 such historical 'rhyming' via Black Lives Matter protests and other social demonstrations, plus, the violence, upheaval, and denials of guilt that came with them.

As you know, the transformative pair of Uranus-Pluto is a marker for revolution and for 'collapse of the old order, construction of the new' (Ebertin). Adding to societal difficulties is the current Saturn-Uranus square with its resistance to law and order and challenges to authority vibes. Stubborn blockages will continue through the year between karmic Saturn's status quo qualities vs the futurism and progressiveness of techie Uranus, a pair that also contains 'old order vs new order' implications - all set upon the background of the recent Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction in Aquarius with its 'new order' timing.

So below is a bi-wheel of the first of three Uranus-Pluto Conjunctions (17Vir09: October 9, 1965 4:11 pm edt Washington DC; ASC 18AQ53) in center and around the outside, a Horoscope of the Trump Mob Attack of January 6, 2021 (set for 1:00 pm est since that's when the congressional session met to certify the Electoral votes for Joe Biden; the assault soon began).

Now annoyingly, my nose today is too sniffy with allergies to add a bunch of notes and fusses with these charts so perhaps you'll do that for yourself, dear reader. Yet I must note that the 1965 Midheaven ('MC'), the Goal Point, will soon receive a Lunar Eclipse @5Sag25 on May 26, 2021 so perhaps in May, June, or later in the year a few inconvenient secrets concerning Uranus-Pluto activities and conditions (ex: more names of backers or enablers involved on January 6th?) will be revealed by the light of the Full Moon!

Well, it had to As above, so below, didn't it? The Republican House refuses to take up the Senate Highway Bill leaving in-progress projects stranded and project starts hanging without funds.

With the fairy dust sparkles of the recent Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Leo fading, we must trudge back to DC for more cantankerous behavior by Washington politicians who think acting "in breach of the public trust" is governing.

Reflecting yet another Republican vs Democrat stalemate of blockages, obstacles, delay and frustration, investing Jupiter and restrictive, austere Saturn now square one and add stubborn behavior to the July 25, 2015 Retrograde Station of Venus, another money planet along with generous Jupiter. The Jupiter-Saturn fuss will continue while evaluating Venus (archetype of the feminine goddesses that America's founders idolized to the point of placing a statue symbolizing 'Columbia' atop the Capitol dome--and Virgo symbols all around the District) won't pass her shadow degree until October 10th (groan.) Plus, the July 25th Rx Station of Venus occurred precisely upon the royal star Regulus @00Vir46 with its keywords: success if revenge is avoided.

And yes, Regulus is representative of the Capitol Building and thus the US Congress in the starry layout of L'Enfant's original Federal Triangle along with the White House as fortuitous Arcturus and the phallic Washington Monument spiking upward toward lovely Spica. But really now, can you imagine Washington politicians taking no revenge upon one another? Why, that would be totally unbelievable!

And though the Direct Station of Venus may bring some improvement in funding, investing, and diplomacy matters (another province of astrological Venus) she won't pass her shadow degree (00Vir46) until October 10, 2015--almost one month after the September 13th Solar Eclipse with its 'high stress level' and 'overtaxing of strength' background influences. Surely by then the public will be spared the Venusian envy, spitefulness, and scorn with which Republicans pretend to govern while acting in the Political Theater of Washington DC.

10.31.13: Senator-elect Cory Booker sworn in w his Venus rising

At noon today, Senator-elect Cory Booker was sworn in and now joins the hallowed lions' den within the US Capitol Building. Assuming the ceremony and oath proceeded on schedule, we find that 2Cap26 is rising on the Ascendant at the Capitol Building (10.31.13) with Venus @25Sag21 rising in 12th house of Politics and Karma, and powerful Pluto @9Cap25 rising in the 1st house of Self.

This gives a 'fascinating, attractive personality' vibe to his tenure (Venus-Pluto = ASC) and makes Saturn the chart-ruler directing the event and his term. Saturn @13Sco32 is in 10th house of Public Status/Career and makes no major applying aspects though the societal pair of planets, Saturn and Jupiter, as in a lovely trine (6A54) from Jupiter's 7th house position 20Can26 (a critical degree).

With no application, Saturn's sign, degree, and house position become more prominent. Yet Saturn is not part of a rather massive YOD pattern with its base an 8th house Mars @9Vir32 sextiling Sun (8Sco23--conjunct President Obama's natal Neptune today and his alleged falsehoods in the news), North Node @7Sco45, and Mercury Rx @11Sco06--not great for taking Mercurial oaths. So will there be a flub? Or is Mercury Rx related to Booker's taking over for deceased Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, as in, a second oath taken for the same senate seat? Well, this is a Balsamic phase of the Moon period so taking over for another who can't carry on is denoted already and a retrograde Mercury seems to be supporting this.

Now the apex of the YOD (special task, crisis, turning point) is planet Uranus Rx @9Ari27 in 3rd house of Communications. As apex planet in a YOD, Uranus behaves as a catalyst, an extraordinary person with acute intellectual capacity who disrupts by making sweeping changes.

And we all know that the US Congress needs all the sweeping (and dusting and cleaning) it can get, so Welcome, Senator Booker, to Capitol Hill Antics Theater! May your 'special task' be successfully performed on behalf of the American people. I hope you brought a large broom.

As for Senator Booker's natal chart (April 27, 1969, Washington DC, 'noon'), his first natal planet to rise today at noon is Venus @10Ari35 with the magic wand of Uranus catalyzing it which indicates new or unusual alliances being formed and interactions with others that are difficult to predict. The swearing-in Moon today @1Lib59 conjoins Mr. Booker's natal Uranus @00Lib33 Rx (which conjoins his natal South Node, and both conjoin America's natal Midheaven, and if his natal Moon in Virgo is on or near 9Vir+, transit Mars @9Vir32 conjoins it denoting a quicker pace to life and emotions that are close to the surface.

Ascending in the New Moon horoscope, we see 4Sag35, therefore we look to chart-ruler Jupiter's applying aspects to glean how events may proceed as the darkened Moon gains in light until culmination at the Full Moon of May 27 (6Sag33 @ 7:07:15 pm edt Capitol Bldg; Sun conjunct Pan 6Sag37, a trickster element which may suggest a level of panic; Sun in a mundane chart = the leader; Moon = the populace.)


May 13's New Moon chart-ruler, Jupiter, makes three applying aspects:

1. opposition Saturn (1A47; almost exact - 10 years on, this is the fulfillment or culminating stage of May 28, 2000's Great Conj of Jupiter and Saturn @ '23Tau' which heralded the New Millennium's out-of-control greed and corruption; also, Jup = Rs, Sat = Ds);

2. sextile Sun and Moon (3A08); (Moon sextile Jupiter = the Ray of Hope aspect, says Alan Oken; Sun sextile Jupiter = our leader may travel afar, and approach his goals with a new enthusiasm));

3. conjunct Uranus (3A14) @ 00Ari18 on June 8, 2010; Uranus = AP indicates a time of historic breakthroughs in Science, Genetics, Explorations, Religion and Philosophy, Technology, Finances, Politics, Arts, Astrology, and more...these possibilities are expanded or increased by Jupiter's presence with Uranus @ AP.

As you see, there are many factors worth noting in the New Moon chart including the influence of the earthy, materialistic sign of Taurus and its underbelly traits of intolerance and greed. But since you, dear reader, know a bunch about Taurean traits already, I shall skip to the one planetary pattern configured here in the New Moon horoscope: the Mutable Fixed Square between the opposition of Jupiter and Saturn and an apex Venus 22Gem48 in 7th house of Partnership, Legal Affairs, and Open Enemies.

First, their midpoint picture, some of which is notated on the chart (with mdpt credit due to those mentioned above); I am leaving out the romantic implications for the sake of Political Astrology...

Jup/Sat = Venus: hypersensitivity about one's ego-position; a lack of endurance or tenaciousness; discontent; increased appreciation for the value of planning and organization; a touch of reserve; jealousy about recognition given to others.

When Venus (values; evaluations; relationships; attractions; smaller amounts of money; revenge) is the apex or focal planet in a Mutable T-Square, we find persons who may be social butterflies possessing strong drives toward sociability and/or social awareness.

Yet values may not be compatible with those attracted so relationships present challenging problems with emotional tensions, jealousies, and feelings of inequality. Apex Venus in T-SQ expects things to come easy with little or no effort since constant satisfaction is desired; complacency, laziness, and passivity are cautions.

In a Mutable T-SQ, apex Venus indicates one who is fickle and uncertain of personal values; 'space' to emotionally breathe within partnerships is deemed a necessity, and the ability to come and go as one pleases is a must due to the restlessness of the Mutable quality.

Yet if Venusian energies are well-managed in a Mutable T-SQ, diplomacy and fair play may result.

The Ideal is sought, and the stability of having staid Saturn within the T-SQ helps apex Venus stick around long enough to resolve conflicts caused by the blocking squares (90 degrs) from both Jupiter and Saturn...

Venus SQ Jupiter = indulgent and careless about responsibilities; outgoing when things are going well but obstinate and hard to deal with when they are not; in dealings with people compromise and adjustments are offered yet these may be empty gestures; resentful if forced to act; tends to be demanding; deceptive tactics may be resorted to in order to gain attention; skillful communications abilities are the greatest asset; feels suspicious of others' hostility, and anxious that they will try to take advantage; not overly generous due to a belief that generosity is 'not really appreciated'.

Venus SQ Saturn = difficulties in relating to others; meeting them halfway must be learned; feels left out of the mainstream's social situations; unwilling to accept responsibility; on the defensive and concerned that others will make too many demands; needs to chillax, indulge in less self pity, and cooperate with others; indicates difficult work environments especially in fields of banking, finance, real estate, insurance, law, trade and commerce, or design. Note: Venus out-of-bounds increases the planet's traits noted above especially where feelings of insecurity, inequality, or inferiority are concerned. And you may wish to read of the New Moon's Sabian Symbol at Midheaven, the Goal Point of the New Moon chart.

Well, with the transiting midpoint of Saturn/Neptune and its 'losses-delusions-denials' vibe still hanging about upon our US natal ASC (Sibly, '13Sag'), we may wish to reconsider the midpoint picture thus formed...

Tr Saturn/Neptune = n ASC: noticing the pretenses or false intentions of others; confinement; a loner or one who feels 'out of the group'; oppressive family circumstances; a limitation of freedom; emotional suffering caused by others; illness.

Astrology of the Nov 21, 2009 Health Reform vote

Tonight on Capitol Hill a procedural vote is scheduled for 8:00 pm est on the Health Care Reform Bill of Senator Harry Reid. My previous post cites an afternoon NPR Breaking News alert that Dem Senator Blanche Lincoln will be voting with her party thus giving them the elusive 60 votes needed to avoid a Republican filibuster.

Formal debate on the bill can begin after the Thanksgiving break if Dems get 60 votes, says C-SPAN.

Now I'm of two minds on the whole subject of this bill due to the tiresome 'unintended consequences' that so many congressional bills cause and lacking trust in my overly aggressive government, I believe most of the 'unintended' results are actually intended. But maybe that's just me - or FDR, who said, "In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."

So let's take a brief peek at tonight's horoscope set up for: Nov 21, 2009 8:00 pm est, Capitol Building, Washington, DC to see how things may get on during this Saturn Hour of control and authority:

ASC 17Can04 making the 7th house Moon 28Cap56 (conjunct US natal Pluto 27Cap33 Rx) the chart-ruler. Applying aspects to the Moon are indicators of the proceedings as they move forward this evening.

Sun sextile Moon (0A56); Moon trine Saturn (3A21) with Saturn the planet of the Democratic Party in Mundane Astrology; Sun 29Sco51 conjuncts 2009's Inaugural Moon 29:45 and Sun = leadership in a mundane charts. This times a promise of health care (insurance!) reform which the Obama administration made to the American people. Remember the president said that our economic woes are based on a health care system and its costs being out of control. (Just paraphrasing him there. That Reid's bill will repair the cost situation is a risk.)

Moon also sextiles (60 degr, an aspect of opportunity - and 60 votes needed!) Mc (The Goal Point; Mc 29Pis04 at 8 pm) very closely - 0A08.

Of course, the vote will probably not begin precisely at 8:00 pm; at 8:09 pm, Moon reaches *29Cap00 - a critical or crisis degree as is the Sun's 29Sco); at 10:10 pm, Moon will enter Aquarius, 00AQ00, which conjuncts the US Inaugural Sun (president) degree but also 2009 Inaugural Mercury Rx which described so well President Obama's second Oath-taking due to Chief Justice Roberts' mess-up. Mercury - oaths and votes; Rx = do-overs.

This indicates to me that the president's imperative to pass health insurance legislation has a good chance to be forwarded this evening with the vote at 8:00 pm.

However, if Lincoln and Louisiana's Mary Landrieu change their minds later on, the bill could be in trouble.

Mercury 9Sag19 in 5th house of Risk-Taking and Gambling indicates the ladies' concern over their own future political prospects; Mercury conjs Royal Star Antares ('anti-Aries, or anti-Mars') with contentious Mars 15Leo03 in 2nd house of Money and Values. '15Leo' is the Lion's Point degree and one of the Dark Moons (w'mat2 @ 15Leo29)) conjuncts Mars indicating that something is being hidden about Mars' position or by Mars himself. (Mars = males between the ages of 25 to 35, give or take a year or so.)

Mars opposite Jupiter 19AQ43 in 8th house of Big Money and Transformations) which means the instigator also opposes Mr. Obama's natal ASC. Chiron and Neptune 23AQ47 are posited in 8th house as well showing the inflationary pair of speculators (Jup/Nep) readying for their 3rd and final Great Conjunction of 2009 on Dec 21.

As you know, their conj occurs again on the US natal Moon (Sibly chart) so we have a midpoint picture to consider with 'grand schemes' Jupiter/Neptune as given here previously, and blending Tyl, Ebertin, and Munkasey's interpretations....

Jup/Nep = n Moon: going with the wind; little sense of reality; losing oneself in plans; becoming involved in speculation, instability, wastefulness; uncertainty about what is real and what is not.

If you, lone reader, have been feeling this way lately, you are not alone!

Well, I meant to cover tonight's T-Squares, one of which has Pluto (1Cap54 in 6th house of Health) as its apex planet in a Cardinal T-Square once the Mc hits 00Ari00, but if I keep typing it will soon be 8:00 pm!

This apex Pluto, planet of secret control, is a loner who refuses to share his power - he doesn't 'play well' with the other planets (actors) and has a chip on his shoulder which makes compromise impossible within his intensely driven goals.

Pluto's only aspects in this chart are: square Saturn (0S22); semi-sq Venus (0S41); sesqui-sq Mars (1A53); and a separating square to the Midheaven. In short, Mr. Pluto isn't happy and yet he is at apex of the Sun/Moon midpoint (29Sag24), so we have...

Sun/Moon = Pluto: increased opportunities for personal and social contributions to be recognizes more universally; important secrets that help achievement. (Munkasey.) Noel Tyl says, "critical time of development."

Also of note: a **Cardinal T-Square indicates concentrated focus being applied toward major here-and-now goals; looking before leaping is necessary for there may be unintended consequences.

It's those unintended consequences I fret about for the American people even if tonight's vote reaches the magic number of 60, and a reform bill eventually becomes reality. White House Reality isn't the same as Common Good Reality!

Finally, in a previous post on the health care/insurance reform subject I stated the possibility that the bill's passage may be timed on, or soon after, the Dec 21 hook-up of grandly spirited (if overblown) Jupiter/Neptune, the speculators.

Four DC landmarks spotlighted in 'The Lost Symbol'

Since the original focus of Stars Over Washington has been our Founding Fathers as Freemasons, the White Lodge we call the 'White House', and the Masonic Temple that is the Capitol Building, it seemed incumbent upon me as this blog's author to find a web site featuring the four Washington DC landmarks that form the setting of Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, a book which isn't garnering the best of praise in many Amazon book reviews.

One review made a basic point about The Lost Symbol that I found particularly salient: that The DaVinci Code was an impossible act to follow. Now this was a novel that I appreciated quite well, but found the film more than a little disappointing - it seemed to 'peter out' near the end and amount to very little, imo. Aka, a let-down.

(A let-down similar to congressional sausage-making on Capitol Hill, but that's another plot line of more dire proportions for the American people.)

So are you up for intrigue set in DC from the pen of author Brown?

How about a real world tour of the four landmarks featured in the novel? Well, the above linked site has historical details, hours of operation, and addresses of the four which include The Library of Congress, the Washington Monument (a monument to phallic symbols everywhere), the US Capitol Building, and the Smithsonian, with its 19 museums, 9 research centers, and zoo.

There's even a link provided to DC's Metro for train schedules, the best way to visit DC landmarks...whether you've read the book, or seen the movie or not.

Forget the quibbly popular vote, it's just gravy.

On Jan 8, 2009 at 1:35 pm est Dick Cheney announced Barack Obama winner of the states' electoral college votes and that's how he became president of the United States.

Jan 8 was the day of Barack Obama's economic speech, too, as well as being Elvis Presley's birthday.

Meanwhile, the procession of senators and reps paraded importantly down Statuary Hall "at the stroke of 1:00 pm" which rather reminds me of secret societies, and of the Sabian Symbol for the rising sign and degree at 1:35 pm..."30Taurus"..."A Peacock Parading on an Ancient Lawn"...in that Masonic-style temple we call the Capitol Building.

So! the electoral college chart has tomorrow's Inaugural Moon 29Sco45 in the setting position on the Descendant. There are other interesting factors in the chart, but they'll wait for a better time...right now I just want to wallow in the fact that Mr. Obama is in, and Bush and Cheney are out!

Sun Myung Moon revered on Capitol Hill

For some time I've meant to post this video which concerns *Sun Myung Moon's 'crowning' as the 'prince of peace'...in the US Capitol Building, which is a Masonic temple, if you look at it from the right angle.

Do we pay them for this? Is it really in God they trust?

The video is almost 23 minutes long so you may wish to skip ahead - and you may not believe your eyes, if they are American eyes.

Makes me wonder what craziness our elected 'representatives' get up to in their private sessions with their after-hours secret handshakes and oaths not to reveal - to the American people - what goes on.

Moon's huge Paraguay compound is said to be next door to the Bush family compound so apparently they'll be neighbors when a retired George kicks back on the porch.

I'll never forget living in DC years several 'moons' ago when thousands of Moon posters were suddenly plastered all over the city with his grinning mugshot freakishly staring out. And as you see above, our freaks honor him--or pretend to.

Little did I know then what I wish I didn't have to know now.

War and John Quincey Adams July 11, 1767

Here you see the natal chart (Rodden rating: C, data in question) of our 6th president, John Q. Adams. Outer notations in orange are positions for his last Lunar Return which occurred on his day of death, actual time unknown; place: the Capitol Building.

Lunar Return chart Feb 2, 1848, 10:21 pm, Capitol Bldg, has both Moon 18Cap40 and Jupiter 12Can10 Rx Angular, common for a death chart. Also common is Jupiter's involvement with his magnifying properties, and the Moon is an excellent timing device. (I often use the Moon to time deaths from long ago when the actual time is unknown or unrecorded.)

1848's Jupiter is at the Mrs Rx station degree of Nov 15, posted upon below.

Adams was a short, stout, bald, and not well-liked man--which sounds like a vp we know, doesn't it?

Checking his progressed charts for his death date, I found a Minor (mental/causal plane) midpoint picture which may be worth considering:

Mars/Saturn = Neptune: weak vitality; waning powers and weakening efforts; undermining of the vitality through poison, gas, or epidemic; a mysterious death; grievous loss.

Adams' Pre-Natal Eclipse Series, 3North, is the same Series as for the attacks of 9/11, for "Black Thursday" of Oct 29, 1929, and is the PE of writer Danny Casolaro, who was murdered as he investigated our political crime families and others for a book. Needless to say, Casolaro's notes mysteriously disappeared and his book was squashed along with his life in August, 1991.


You may notice that on the day of Adams' passing, tr Moon had conjuncted n Pluto (a planet unknown at the time, of course) at appr 7:57 am, so perhaps John Q. didn't make it through the day until his Moon Return that evening.

But the old work horse was in the Capitol Building slogging away apparently, with:

Mars/Saturn = Uranus: nerve disease; a quick departure.

And here a few important words still of concern to America from President Adams:
