government's cousins and fools

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out...without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.

--H.L. Mencken 1880-1956 American journalist, satarist, social critic

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

--Bertrand Russell 1872-1970 British philosopher, historian

Above quotes compliments of Information Clearing House

More cousinship revelations of the mind bending kind:

WaPo is revealing Mike Huckabee as a 9th cousin of George Bush bwo Connecticut grandfathers. So did Bush win Iowa? (see post just below--seems the void-of-course Moon took Hillary to the 'nowhere' of 3rd place!)

And we heard months ago that Barack Obama and Dick Cheney are distantly related. Did Cheney, on some weird level, win Iowa?

Can this, on a mysterious and hidden astrological level, be why last evening's caucus chart had Bush and the Rs all over it? Shall I wig out now or wait for later?

Hold on, Aint Bea, there's more:

Huckabee is also reported to be a 10th cousin once removed of Mitt Romney. Now that's even weirder...a Baptist and a Mormon go into an diner in Iowa, they both order Kool-Aid straight up...is America buyin'?

Hey thanks for the comment and link--read your post and i'm not sure our takes are vastly different. Our collective R vs D illusion is being promoted by all candidates--if they're runnin' they're part of the mass hallucination. It's all quite tiresome.

And the few who seem to be telling truth won't be able to accomplish anything worthwile if they get in--look who they have to deal with in Washington.

As my local congressman was told after he 'made it' to the House--you'll vote how we say if you want to keep your job.

So much for "representation."

Best to you, jude ;p

What you said bugged me a lot, since I couldn't see how Bush would be involved in the situation. Until I thought about it and realized that 'the media' were pimping St. John McCain all day, even though he had been the front-runner (and tanked), and even though he finished fourth. Several political blogger friends were angry that the political reporters kept coming back to McCain (Sarcasm: "Even though he finished fourth, we all know John McCain was the real winner!")

Then I put two and two together. The Bush WH wants perpetual war for perpetual peace. They don't care about abortion, judges, the working stiffs, shrinking government or any of those ostensible R principles. All they really care about is the Empire in the Middle East, the oil (because oil is money) and tax cuts. So their favored candidates are the obvious ones: McCain, Guilani, and maybe Romney if they just gotta. (That's why they were the 'front runners'.) The R base is pretty much rejecting Bushism and the touch of Bush is the touch of death.

Extra bonus thought (before I get to my conclusion): all the evidence I saw suggested that the media was on the side of Bush from 2000 to 2006, in particular running down Gore, pushing the rah rah war stuff and similar items like. After the R House passed the immigration bill the entire press basically went into the tank for the D's. And then, after the election was over, they climbed back out again. This is all in the context of a Bush administration that has been lousy at just about everything BUT politics and managing the media (see Scooter Libby).

So given all of the above, it occurred to me that Bush's thumbprints are visible in McCain sudden appearance. He should be roadkill if the media was holding him to the standard they hold other candidates, but he's not. What I figure is that the Bush insiders are working the phones and basically feeding a line to the reporters that McCain was going to make a big comeback in NH, because their polling said so (whether it actually did or not) so as to dent Huckabee and get one of the war supporters back in the race. (I think Bush did the exact same thing in 2006; effectively trashing his own party for failing to go along with his immigration scheme.)

Otherwise, you might very well be looking at a situation in NH where the remaining contestants are Huckabee, Paul and Thompson, which would be tantamount to a rejection of Bush. (On par with the rejection of LBJ in '68.)

I don't think it's going to work; but that doesn't prevent them from trying.

['Hillary has to finish first or she's toast, so there's probably going to be a two-party earthquake in NH.']

Thanks, max--glad you were bugged a lot--look what it lead to! I appreciate your observations and think you are on to something...to many things actually.

"They" have "ways" of which we know not, don't they? Yep, New Hampshire will be quite a show--I'll be posting on it asap--there's an interesting New Moon that morning. Very interesting.

My continued hope is that Hillary will NOT be the nominee--why give the GOP exactly what they want?

Stay bugged, jude ;p
