Sunspot Cycle 24 and Dec 21, 2012

This alert is a day late but with the Sunspot Cycle implicated in the Venus affair and Mayan Calendar ending of Dec 21, 2012, I figured you'd want to know..."as wide as seven planet Earths" - yeow!

Space Weather News for Dec 15, 2009

BIG NEW SUNSPOT: Just yesterday (Dec 14), sunspot 1035 was nearly invisible. Today, it is as wide as seven planet Earths. The fast-growing active region burst into view on Dec 14 with a magnetic polarity that clearly identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24. If the expansion continues apace, it could soon become the largest sunspot of the year.

Check SpaceWeather.com for movies, photos and updates.

Fireball over western US turns night to day 11.18.09

Space Weather News for Nov 18, 2009

FIREBALLS AND METEORS: As forecasters predicted, the Leonid meteor shower peaked during the late hours of Nov 17, favoring sky watchers in Asia with an outburst of 100+ meteors per hour. Just as the outburst was dying down, an even bigger event took place over the western USA. Something hit Earth's atmosphere and exploded with an energy equivalent of 0.5 to 1 kiloton of TNT.

Witnesses in Colorado, Utah, Idaho and elsewhere say the fireball "turned night into day" and "shook the ground" when it exploded just after midnight Mountain Standard Time. Researchers who are analyzing infrasound recordings of the blast say the fireball was not a Leonid. It was probably a small asteroid, now scattered in fragments across the countryside.

Efforts are underway to measure the trajectory of the asteroid and guide meteorite recovery efforts. Please visit SpaceWeather News for images and updates. #

Hmmm....there were fireballs sighted over Colorado in 2008...they can sometimes indicate experiments taking place. Or perhaps...going awry.

Then again it could be actual 'signs in the heavens' couldn't it?

View the Leonids Nov 17, 2009

Space Weather News for Nov 16, 2009

LEONID METEOR SHOWER: The Leonid meteor shower peaks on Tuesday, Nov 17, with a new Moon providing ideally-dark viewing conditions. Forecasters expect a relatively mild display (20 to 30 meteors per hour) over North America followed by a much stronger outburst (100 to 300 per hour) over Asia. No matter where you live, the best time to look is during the dark hours before sunrise on Tuesday morning.

Jupiter and the Moon Oct 26, 2009 + a new sunspot

Space Weather News for Oct 25, 2009

BIG SUNSPOT: The sun is showing signs of life. Sunspot 1029 emerged over the weekend, and it is crackling with B- and C-class solar flares. The active region's magnetic polarity identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24. If its growth continues apace, sunspot 1029 could soon become the biggest sunspot of 2009.

Check SpaceWeather for animations and updates.

MONDAY NIGHT SKY SHOW: When the sun sets on Monday, Oct 26, go outside and look south. Jupiter and the Moon are converging for a beautiful conjunction. The bright pair can been seen even through thinly-clouded skies and city lights. Don't miss it!

Harvest Moon 10.4.09: gather crops

Space Weather News for Oct 2, 2009

HARVEST MOON: This weekend's full Moon has a special name--the Harvest Moon. It's the full moon closest to the northern autumnal equinox (Sept 22). In years past, farmers depended on the light of the Harvest Moon to gather ripening crops late into the night. Now we appreciate it mainly for its beauty. Go outside this weekend and enjoy the moonlight.

SOLAR MINIMUM RETURNS: Two sunspots, which appeared on the autumnal equinox to break several months of extreme solar quiet, have faded away, leaving the sun blank once again. The deepest solar minimum in nearly a hundred years appears poised to continue.

NASA spacecraft are now reporting a surge in cosmic rays around Earth caused, somewhat ironically, by this low solar activity. The full story may be found at SpaceWeather.com.

Autumn Equinox 2009: two new sunpots

Space Weather News for Sept 22, 2009

NEW SUNSPOTS: In a year when the sun has been utterly blank 80% of the time, the sudden emergence of two large sunspots in a single day is a noteworthy event. Today is such a day. NASA satellites and amateur astronomers are monitoring a pair of growing sunspots, both apparently members of long-overdue Solar Cycle 24.

The emergence of these active regions is not enough to end the deepest solar minimum in nearly a hundred years, but they do represent a significant uptick in solar activity. Check SpaceWeather.com for images and updates.

SEPT EQUINOX: Today, Sept 22 at 2118 UT (5:18 pm EDT), the sun crosses the celestial equator. This event marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern hemisphere. It's also the beginning of aurora season around the poles.

Happy equinox!

Jupiter's vanishing Moons Sep 2 - 3, 2009~Geomagnetic Megastorm

Space Weather News for Sept 2, 2009

GEOMAGNETIC MEGASTORM: Northern Lights swept over Cuba and Hawaii. Telegraph offices caught fire. Earth's magnetic field shook for nearly a week. That's what happened 150 years ago today when our planet experienced a shocking "geomagnetic megastorm."

Today's story Could It Happen Again? explores the possibilities.

VANISHING MOONS OF JUPITER: Tonight, Sept 2 and 3, for the first time in many years, the moons of Jupiter are going to disappear. At least that's how it will seem when Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto line up in front of and behind the giant planet. A casual look through a backyard telescope will show no moons at all.

The 2-hour vanishing act begins at 9:43 p.m PDT on Sept 2 (4:43 UT on Sept 3.)

Check a sky map, animations and more information at SpaceWeather.com.

Astrologically in the Tropical zodiac, Jupiter is now Rx @ '20AQ', a degree whose Sabian Symbol is "A Big White Dove, a Message-Bearer" for which Dane Rudhyar gives this Keynote:

'The answer of spiritual agencies to thorough, sustained, and victorious individual efforts.'

Mankind must be victorious over the forces of inertia and destruction. The Divine is totally "present" in the heart of all true victories. (...) What the "message" is depends on the particular situation, but the white dove always signifies peace; at the very heart of this peace is the CERTIFICATION of individual worth and victory.'

(An Astrological Mandala, Dane Rudhyar.)

~:~

Sounds rather lovely, doesn't it? Yet a 'dove' is also a symbol for America as 'Columbia' with all the 'manifest destiny' rigamorole, secret power plays, and pocket-linings which that may entail. The power elite took us out of the realm of 'peace' when they propagandized it into a rallying cry for war and more war - its opposite, as in, 'black = white', 'particulate-filled air = clean', 'war = peace', etc.

Those satanists! Always gaming us by using an opposite to veil the hideousness in plain sight!

Here are 'Two Hours' more for you - and don't give up your vigil, for the time cometh...

Astrology Forecast for the Week of Aug 17 - 23, 2009

Are you looking for a Weekly Astrology Forecast for Aug 17 - 23, 2009?

Whoa, there!

Because astrologer Julie Demboski really kicks Fated Undertow's tush with her insights and advice, so check it out before the week wanes without you.

And see my previous post for a SpaceWeather News link to Monday morning's dawn show of beauty as performed by the Crescent Moon, Venus, and (if you're in the right spot on the planet) an ISS flyby to spice things up with its modernity of techiness.

Monday, Aug 17, 2009: Venus, Crescent Moon, ISS flyby

This just in...

Space Weather News for Aug 16, 2009

MONDAY MORNING SKY SHOW: Set your alarm for dawn. On Monday morning, Aug 17, Venus and the Crescent Moon will gather beautifully close together in the eastern sky. For many observers in North America, the International Space Station (ISS) will make an appearance, too. It's a fantastic way to begin the day.

Check SpaceWeather.com for a sky map and ISS flyby predictions.

And astrologically we check our software or ephemeris to see that Moon @ 13Cancer will be conjunct US natal Sun at sunrise on Aug 17, 2009, with Venus in Cancer, too - almost at critical degree, 20 Cancer. That's emphasizing Pluto's Heliocentric North Node '20Can'; and Venus/Pluto contacts can bring jealousies, transformative Art and/or Love, and bankruptcies, among other things.

Relationships of all kinds are being given a celestial heads-up.

August 17, 2009 in Washington, DC, sunrise edt:

Sun 24Leo39 rises in opposition to US natal Moon in Aquarius, Sun/Moon midpoint conjoins President Obama's natal Mercury 2Leo20 for this picture...

Sun/Moon = Mercury: thoughts about marriage and relationships in general; plans for fulfillment. (This picture is supported by the involvement of 2009 Inaugural Mercury Rx 00AQ+.)

And perhaps Mr. Obama's natal Jupiter in AQ (opposite his n Mercury) can join in for a big ole group hug:

Sun/Moon = Jupiter: enthusiasm for life; success; desire for joint endeavors; sound mental and emotional disposition; marriage; a happy relationship.

Well, Happy Monday, Everyone - even if you 'accidentally' sleep past dawn's lovely celestial show!

Solar Eclipse and Jupiter's been kerpow'd! July 21/22, 2009

Well, I was starting the think this Newsletter about this evening's Solar Eclipse would never arrive; oh, and something hit Jupiter:

Space Weather News for July 21, 2009

SOLAR ECLIPSE: The longest total eclipse of the 21st century is about to begin. It starts just hours from now at approximately 9 pm EDT on July 21 (0100 UT on July 22nd). The path of totality crosses many major cities in India and China, setting the stage for possibly the best-observed eclipse in history.

Photos from the path of totality will be posted on SpaceWeather as the event unfolds.

COSMIC COLLISION: Evidence is mounting that something did hit Jupiter no more than a few days ago.

The impact site (a dark "scar" in Jupiter's clouds) was discovered on July 19 by Australian amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley, and NASA astronomers quickly confirmed the find. Infrared photos posted on today's edition of SpaceWeather News are consistent with an asteroid or comet strike on the giant planet. The debris zone in Jupiter's clouds is itself as wide as a small planet, making it an easy target for backyard telescopes.

Astrologically, I've written so often about tonight's Eclipse at '29 Cancer' that I'm Eclipsed out, both here and on Jude's Threshold (see sidebar of Pages for Eclipse charts.)

But as far as people who share a Sun Cancer-Moon Cancer personality blend, I shall add a quote by such a one, a quote that someone may find useful in this crazy world:

"But I want first of all to be at peace with myself...I want to live an inner harmony, essentially spiritual, which can be translated to outer harmony."

See 3d photo from space of Russian volcano erupting

With transiting Saturn now returned to '17 Virgo' I wasn't surprised that a rerun of Krakatoa was shown this week on PBS but now this amazing must-see photo has been taken from the ISS:

Space Weather News for June 26, 2009

VOLCANIC VISTAS: On June 12th, astronauts onboard the International Space Station watched in amazement as Russia's Sarychev Peak volcano erupted directly beneath their spacecraft. The rare photo they took is a must-see.

An enormous sulfur dioxide plume from the eruption is now circumnavigating the globe at northern latitudes, producing spectacular sunsets for international air travelers.

Today's edition of SpaceWeather News features 3D photos of the eruption from space, satellite movies of the sulfur dioxide plume, and a Mars-like view of the volcanic cloud over the Canadian Arctic. #

Krakatoa's 2nd eruption came on August 27, 1883, and 1/3 of the earth's inhabitants heard it! The tsunami it caused you don't want to know about as most of the Indonesian island disappeared under the waves.

Saturn on August 27, 1883 was at '10 Gemini' along with Pluto (1:13) and Chiron (3:32); in Virgo were Sun (3Vir+), Uranus, and Mercury. Watery Neptune was Rx at '22 Taurus', an earth sign, and Mars 2Can+ was conjoined by the Moon.

So as far as '17 Virgo' goes, Mercury and Uranus would have been the last planetary culprits to trigger the "Volcano in Eruption" degree of the Sabian Symbols. This is certainly not conclusive for timing volcanic explosions by Astrology, I'm just noting the '17 Virgo' degree's volcanic symbolism along with Saturn's representation of Earth, soil, tectonic plates, rocks, and other geological factors.

"A Volcano in Eruption"...EXPLOSION...

positive: creative passion as a rejection of superficiality and a genius for ordering of self;

negative/unconscious/shadow side: petulance and tantrums. (Marc Edmund Jones,The Sabian Symbols in Astrology.)

Dane Rudhyar in his An Astrological Mandala gives the Keynote of this degree as:

The explosive energy of long-repressed contents of the subconscious.

Space Station Flares intense but not a mystery

Often the SpaceWeather News arrives a day late but is always timely for astronomical events...

Space Weather News for May 26, 2009

SPACE STATION FLARES: Lately, a growing number of observers are reporting intense "flares" coming from the International Space Station (ISS). During some night time flybys, the luminosity of the space station surges 10-fold or more. Some people have witnessed flares of magnitude -8 or twenty-five times brighter than Venus.

A movie featured on today's edition of SpaceWeather.com shows what is happening: sunlight glints from the station's recently expanded solar arrays in a shadow-casting flash.

Currently, the flares are unpredictable. You watch a flyby not knowing if one will happen or how bright it might be. That's what makes the hunt for "ISS flares" so much fun. Sky watchers in North America should be alert for flares this week. The ISS is making a series of evening passes over many US and Canadian towns and cities.

Flyby times are available from Simple Satellite Tracker.

Jupiter's Moons Europa and Ganymede Eclipse! May 2009

Space Weather News for May 10, 2009

JUPITER MOON MOVIE: An amateur astronomer in Australia has photographed a very rare event--one of Jupiter's moons eclipsing another. Earth is now passing through the orbital plane of Jupiter's satellite system allowing such "mutual occultations" to be seen through backyard telescopes.

Check SpaceWeather.com for a movie of Europa passing directly in front of Ganymede and links to more information for observers who wish to try to record such movies themselves.

SATELLITE DEBRIS: On Feb 10, 2009, Iridium 33 crashed into Cosmos 2251 and the two satellites were shattered. Since then, US Strategic Command has catalogued nearly a thousand pieces of debris. Today's edition of SpaceWeather News presents 3D maps showing where the fragments are located on the three-month anniversary of the unprecedented collision.

One large piece of Iridium 33 wreckage is visible to the naked eye as it tumbles through the night sky flashing every 4.7 seconds. Check the Simple Satellite Tracker for flyby times.

May 2009 Sun's new coronal mass ejections

Space Weather News for May 6, 2009

NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft is monitoring an active region hidden behind the sun's eastern limb. On May 5, it produced an impressive coronal mass ejection (CME) and a burst of radio emissions signalling the passage of a shock wave through the sun's outer atmosphere.

Activity has continued apace today, May 6, with at least two more eruptions. The blast site is not yet visible from Earth, but the sun is turning the region toward us for a better view. Is a new-cycle sunspot in the offing? Readers with solar telescopes could see it emerge as early as May 7 or 8.

4.22.09: Lyrid meteors and Moon occults Venus

Wake Up, you Sleepyheads! It's time for the...

Space Weather News for April 21, 2009

MORNING METEORS: Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Thatcher, the source of the annual Lyrid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Wednesday, April 22, with a display of 10 to 20 meteors per hour over the northern hemisphere. Occasionally, Earth passes through a dense region of the comet's tail and rates surge five- to ten-fold.

In 1982, for instance, observers were surprised by an outburst of 90 Lyrids per hour. Because Thatcher's tail has never been mapped in detail, the outbursts are unpredictable and could happen again at any time. The best time to look, no matter where you live, is during the dark hours before dawn on Wednesday morning April 22.

Visit SpaceWeather for full coverage.

LUNAR OCCULTATION OF VENUS: Even if the Lyrids fizzle, there is still something wonderful to see on Wednesday morning, April 22. The Crescent Moon and Venus are going to have a close encounter of jaw-dropping beauty. Look low and to the east just before sunrise. Observers in western parts of North America will see a lunar occultation: Venus will disappear behind the Moon's limb just after 5 am PDT and reappear again an hour or so later.

Details may be found in this Science@NASA story.

:~:

Can a return of particular meteors and comets bring past issues to the front burner again?

Astrogically the year 1982 saw a bleak Saturn-Pluto conjunction on Nov 8 at 26Lib36. Theirs is an approximately 33-year cycle and tends to bring difficult or even brutal events which demand much endurance.

We know that the culmination of the 1982 cycle is well-marked by the attacks of 9.11.01 with the Saturn-Pluto opposition falling across America's natal ASC/DESC axis (in the so-called Sibly chart - 12Sag/Gem) 'personalizing' the opposition for the USA and heralding the New Millennium for America and for the entire world.

In late November of 1982, Pluto entered Scorpio which brought intense focus on financial issues and other confidential matters.

That year there were military coups in Guatemala and Bangladesh, and Israel invaded Lebanon in retaliation for the wounding of the Israeli ambassador in London.

And the endless cycle of violence and revenge goes on.

Also in 1982 was the invasion of the Falklands Islands by Argentina and subsequently its recapture by British troops. PM Margaret Thatcher in the UK and Pres. Ronald Reagan in the US were at the tops of their heaps if not their games.

Plus, the NYSE saw a record day in trading in 1982 but - surprise! - what goes up must come down. Oh, and Prince William was born in England, and a burglar broke into Buckingham Palace and frightened the Queen.

So if you hear mention of any of these events or persons in coming days - a Comet Thatcher reference having just occurred above bwo SpaceWeather News - perhaps you'll think '1982' - and how cool Astrology blended with Astronomy can be for pointing out similarities and synchronicities...for As above, So Below!

Listen to Jupiter's radio storms!

Space Weather News for April 13, 2009

RADIO STORMS ON JUPITER: On April 11, an amateur radio astronomer in New Mexico heard loud pops and crackles coming from the loudspeaker of his shortwave receiver. The sounds resembled terrestrial lightning, but the source was not on Earth. It was a radio storm on Jupiter.

You can listen to the sounds on today's edition of SpaceWeather News.

Astronomers have long known that Jupiter produces strong shortwave radio bursts detectable from Earth; the fact of Jupiter's "radio activity" is not news. However, now may be the best time in decades to listen to the giant planet. The sun is in the pits of a century-level solar minimum. Low solar activity increases the transparency of Earth's atmosphere to shortwave radio waves, allowing signals from Jupiter to more easily and clearly reach the ground.

At the same time, terrestrial radio interference subsides (another side-effect of solar minimum), so Jupiter bursts are easier to identify.

2009 is going to be a good year for Jupiter. The planet is moving away from the sun and may now be seen shining brightly in the eastern sky before dawn. Students, teachers and amateur scientists who wish to try listening as well as watching should consider building their own radio telescope.

Kits are available from NASA's Radio JOVE Program.

~:~

Astrologically we could also say that "2009 is going to be a good year for Jupiter" the planet of money, expansion, ethics, and ideologies thanks to the 13-year-cycle of Jupiter's Great Conjunction with Neptune from late May 2009 to December 2009 - as the Fed's grand plan of creating excess liquidity to flood markets everywhere continues to float fancy yachts and sink modest boats within the storms of Washington's and Wall Street's speculation and fraud.

Now Jupiter prefers to do better than that but nebulous Neptune isn't usually as picky! Or perhaps it's more correct to say that Neptune would be pleased to act above board if human beings were more ethical.

Track volcanic clouds from Alaska's Mt Redoubt

Space Weather News for March 30, 2009

MT. REDOUBT: Alaska's Mt. Redoubt volcano has erupted at least 19 times since March 22, and several of the most powerful blasts have spewed clouds of ash and sulfurous gas into the lower stratosphere.

The last time an Alaskan volcano blew its top (Kasatochi in August 2008), similar clouds caused fantastic sunsets around the Northern Hemisphere.

Today's edition of SpaceWeather News features satellite maps of Mt. Redoubt's sulfur dioxide emissions. Using these maps, we can track the volcanic clouds as they drift around the globe and be alert for unusual sunsets and other phenomena when they pass nearby.

New solar wings for ISS + Jupiter's Moons conjunct the Sun

Space Weather News for March 21, 2009

ISS GETS NEW WINGS: The International Space Station's solar arrays are the largest deployable space assemblies ever built. Yesterday, astronauts unfurled a pair on the starboard side of the outpost, adding more than 8000 sq. feet of light-collecting surface area to the station's profile.

Hours after the new wings were deployed, the ISS flew over Europe where amateur astronomers photographed the changes. Their movies and photos are featured on today's edition of SpaceWeather News.

SOLAR CONJUNCTION OF JUPITER'S MOONS: Another must-see movie comes from NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft. On March 15 and 16, the solar observatory watched Jupiter and its moons converge on the sun just as a coronal mass ejection was exploding "overhead." Visit SpaceWeather.com for footage.

Worm Moon Full Tonight Mar 10, 2009

Space Weather News for March 10, 2009

SATELLITE DEBRIS UPDATE: The first catalogued fragments of shattered satellite Cosmos 2251 are about to reenter Earth's atmosphere. According to US Strategic Command tracking data, reentries will occur on March 12, 28 and 30, followed by more in April.

Radar cross sections are not available for all of the reentering pieces; they are probably centimeter-class fragments that pose no threat to people on the ground.

Visit SpaceWeather for more information.

WORM MOON: Tonight's full Moon has a special name - the Worm Moon. It signals the coming of northern spring, a thawing of the soil, and the first stirrings of earthworms in long-dormant gardens.

Step outside tonight and behold the wakening landscape. "Worm moonlight" is prettier than it sounds." #
