In keeping with my overly-busy schedule (and your own, no doubt!) here is a day-late SpaceWeather News Alert concerning Friday August 31, 2012, the day of the mystical Full Moon @8Pis34 when Fed chairman Ben Bernanke made his stock-market-lifting remarks after the Fed's Jackson Hole, Wyoming meeting about how the Fed "could do more" for the US economy, and a day after Mitt Romney's gift-more-billions-to-yacht-owners acceptance speech at RNC 2012...with huge amounts of gas emitted all around and perhaps someone's explosive temper erupting as well. MAGNIFICENT ERUPTION: On August 31st, a magnetic filament on the sun erupted in spectacular fashion, producing a long-duration solar flare, a coronal mass ejection (CME) and one of the most beautiful movies of an explosion ever recorded by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. The CME propelled by the blast might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field in the days ahead.

MAJOR FLARE: Earth-orbiting satellites have detected the strongest solar flare in more than four years. At 0156 UT on Feb 15th, giant sunspot 1158 unleashed an X2-class eruption. X-flares are the strongest type of x-ray flare, and this is the first such eruption of new Solar Cycle 24. The explosion that produced the flare also sent a solar tsunami rippling through the sun's atmosphere and, more importantly, hurled a coronal mass ejection toward Earth. This raises the possibility of geomagnetic storms in the days ahead.

Actually, transiting Venus 13Cap08 is triggering the current and crisis-degreed Jan 4, 2011 Solar Eclipse as I type, an eclipse which Celeste Teal has titled, The Balance of Power...a turbulent spirit against those in high places.

Major solar x-ray flares, uprisings across the globe, exiles crossing borders, and not one but two solar eclipses for summer: June 1 (11Gem01) and July 1 (9Can12), both affecting the US natal chart (June 1: US n Uranus and DESC; July 1: our n Jupiter and Sun.)

It's going to be a very hot summer.

Bright X-Ray Solar Flare from Sunspot 1121

BRIGHT SOLAR FLARE: Active sunspot 1121 has just unleashed one of the brightest x-ray solar flares in several years, an M5.4-class eruption at 15:36 UT on Nov 6th. Radiation from the flare created a wave of ionization in Earth's upper atmosphere that altered the propagation of low-frequency radio waves. There was, however, no bright CME (plasma cloud) hurled in our direction, so the event is unlikely to produce auroras in the nights ahead.

Now you know that sunspots are implicated in the New Millennium/'2012' prophecy scenarios frequently touted here and there in the modern, if trendy, mainstream and usually based on the Mayan Calendar's ending date of December 21, 2012 (if translations and calculations are correct) - and Venus is a major culprit, it is said.

Today, with Venus in Scorpio's current situation of Rxing back into Libra (and thus conjoining my Sec SN), then slowly picking up steam as she careens through the smoldering sign of Scorpio once again and out of her own slinky shadow (13Sco13 and beyond), I'm not in the mood this Sabbath Day for typing out loud about end-time topics...at least, not in the popular online-kinda-way we've all come to expect.

BIG SUNSPOT: The sun is showing signs of life. Sunspot 1029 emerged over the weekend, and it is crackling with B- and C-class solar flares. The active region's magnetic polarity identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24. If its growth continues apace, sunspot 1029 could soon become the biggest sunspot of 2009.

STRANGE SOLAR FLARE: No sunspots? No problem. Yesterday the blank sun unleashed a solar flare without the usual aid of a sunspot.

At 1408 UT on April 26th, Earth-orbiting satellites detected a surge of X-rays registering B3.8 on the "Richter scale" of solar flares. That's a relatively minor flare; nevertheless, the blast sent a "solar tsunami" shock wave rippling through the sun's atmosphere and also launched a coronal mass ejection. The CME is expected to reach Earth late on April 28th or April 29th, possibly sparking high latitude auroras when it arrives. Visit SpaceWeather to view images, movies and updates.

And with my tiresome tendency to see As above, so below correlations, I'd say somebody is feelin' his oats this week.

Is someone flaring only to flame out? Is Obama's "Star falling" as is being blogged all over.

Or is this unusual flare descriptive of TV's Craig Ferguson livin' large in America while perpetrating his American Dream along with the best imitation of Prince Charles ever devised by man? It's spot on! And horses horses horses do like their oats, don't they?

And then there's...

The "A Man Unmasked" degree of the current season of Solar Eclipses, the one from early February, 2008, keeps on giving.

We've seen a few varmints unmasked, all right, but we hardly care--we've become as they planned--besotted and benumbed from constant exposure to their perfidies and scandals, and fretting over the troubles under our own noses. Snot to the oppressor!

Such is America. But that's not all she is. And I'm grateful for that.

Oh! and Craig...I speak for many when I say that we didn't want you to host the White House Correspondents' Dinner so you could make 'friends in Washington.' Was a line crossed that night?

M-class sunspot flares unleashed

A big sunspot is emerging over the sun's eastern limb, posing a threat for significant solar activity. Already it has unleashed several M-class solar flares. One of the eruptions, an M3-flare on June 1st, caused a shortwave radio fadeout over Europe. Amateur astronomers with solar telescopes should keep an eye on this photogenic sunspot, while shortwave radio listeners should be alert for flare-triggered fadeouts and other propagation effects.
