"A Plea for Sanity" - a Max Igan presentation

From Max Igan: A Plea for Sanity:

Who said, War is Politics by another means...? I'm not certain who said it but once upon a time General Smedley Butler toured the country delivering speeches and asserting that, "War is a racket." These days the world suffers somewhere between those truisms. And it's politicians who insist things have to be that way.

US Lunar Return tonight Oct 26, 2009

An article has been posted concerning tonight's US Moon Return which occurs in Washington, DC at 10:05:47 pm edt, if you're interested.

Saturn at critical or crisis degree (29Vir49) and Mercury at critical degree (29Lib26) both form applying aspects with US natal Moon (Sibly) so you may wish to check out the coming month of our daily rounds which is what a Moon or Lunar Return describes.

Thing is, the lunar contact with Saturn - an inconjunct - is sobering for the next month yet conducive to mature attitudes, so perhaps we should all put on our grown-up beanies for a while and smile on through! This aspect is actually a Saturn transit to US Moon and has been within orb for days now - check it out by clicking the above link.

Tonight's *Sun Scorpio/Moon AQ blend has two 'Images for Integration' which refer to the conscious (Sun) and unconscious (Moon) when they're working well together:

A hovering hawk surveys the world, at one with nature...An exotic moth emerges from its chrysalis, in perfect form, a specimen of the sublimity of nature's intelligence.

'Hovering hawks' remind me of US drones killing people - sorry, but they do.

So even if we-the-people get meaningful, cost-effective health insurance reform out of Washington, we still won't be 'at one with nature' imho, because we're so completely in the wrong on certain issues such as the sociopathic propaganda that war = peace.

Yet this is only a wee Moon Return of a month's duration so let's take it for what it is - fluctuating - and be as content as we can be, even if we've only a faint notion of happiness.

We Call Ourselves Civilized

Image: Don't Bomb My Baby by jude cowell 2007

A Violent Cartography

Bomb After Bomb

By Howard Zinn

I am stunned by the thought that we, the "civilized" nations, have bombed cities and countrysides and islands for a hundred years. Yet, here in the United States, which is responsible for most of that, the public, as was true of me, does not understand--I mean really understand--what bombs do to people.

"It's not right to respond to terrorism by terrorizing other people. And furthermore, it's not going to help. Then you might say, "Yes, it's terrorizing people, but it's worth doing because it will end terrorism." But how much common sense does it take to know that you cannot end terrorism by indiscriminately dropping bombs?" --Howard Zinn Terrorism and War

"Wanton killing of innocent civilians is terrorism, not a war against terrorism." --Noam Chomsky

And if you're in the DC area, there will be a fundraiser for Capital Hospice, Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia, United Cerebral Palsy and other noble causes on New Years Eve...go to: A Party and A Purpose for details and ring in the New Year by partying on for a good cause!

Blogger Note: haven't had time to figure out the cause of this weird underlining crisis SO'W has going here since yesterday.

This week is the busiest of the year in my 'real world' so by weekend I'll be around more...if you've had a similar quirk with your own blog, all advice would be greatly appreciated. So far Blogger's HELP section has not been of any.

if Bush attacks Iran

Now this is what I've suggested before: if Washington won't carry out the will of the people--stop paying them come April.

If Bush Attacks Iran, He Won't Get My Taxes

By Chris Hedges

I will not pay my income tax if we go to war with Iran. I realize this is a desperate and perhaps futile gesture. But an attack on Iran--which appears increasingly likely before the coming presidential election--will unleash a
regional conflict of catastrophic proportions. This war, and especially Iranian retaliatory strikes on American targets, will be used to silence domestic dissent and abolish what is left of our civil liberties. It will solidify the slow-motion coup d'état that has been under way since the 9/11 attacks. It could mean the
death of the Republic.

do we bask in the moonshine of war?

On their march to the sea, Sherman's Army burned many towns in Georgia, towns already suffering horribly from the loss of war. So I guess Sherman's opinion on the subject carries weight even from the mists of time, for war doesn't change, just our misconceptions and the lies that take us into it:

"I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. Some of these young men think that war is all glory but let me say war is all hell."

--William Tecumseh Sherman

Some old men in the White House who never served pretend to think highly of war, too. Profits, you know.

Well, here's a website about the town of Madison, Ga where some of my ancestors lived out their lives. Named in honor of President James Madison, the town was spared destruction because a pro-Union Senator lived there, Joshua Hill (and some say an old girlfriend of Sherman lived nearby.)

From experience I can tell you that visiting Madison, Georgia is like taking a stroll back into a charming and gentler time. That's what a lack of war can do.

Pentagon 'three-day blitz' plan for Iran 02 Sep 2007:

The Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians’ military capability in three days, according to a national security expert. Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, said last week that US military planners were not preparing for "pinprick strikes" against Iran’s nuclear facilities. "They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military," he said.#

Shadows around every corner and "dark actors playing games," as a certain Dr. David Kelly informed a journalist. Did we ever find out who she was? Don't tell me it was Judith Miller. No. That had to have been a nightmare. Anyway, shadows and dark actors are all we get with the curent infestaion of "world leaders" as they tle themselves.

Once upon a time, any little pipsqueak nabob would've been well-satisfied with the title of dictator. Mob bosses, princes, and yes, even kings, would settle for control over the unwashed masses and a lifetime supply of breads and cakes.

But only in the egalitarian--the Aquarian--sort of way...meaning, at a distance, puh-leeeese!

Sharing the spirit but not much else; sharing little in the way of grounding, it's called in astrology. Reminds me of the song I loved to hate so long ago: You Were Always On My Mind.

Elvis regaled us with it, and Willie Nelson took a swipe at it with his lace hanky as consolation prize. But were you ever fooled by the song's sentiments of the arch-smarmy, namby-pamby thought about ya but couldn't be bothered to stir myself cop-out? I knowww.

Someone has issues and it's not just me!

Awakening Warrior by Timothy Challans

Timothy Challans, a career infantry officer writes in his new book, Awakening Warrior: A Revolution In the Ethics of Warfare (State University Press of New York) that,

“The great paradox is that America goes to war against forces that it plays a large role in creating, and each war spawns new threats of largely its own creation.”

In a thoughtful book that blends philosophy and history, Challans diagnoses the ills of what he describes as the “warrior ethos” and the “American War Machine” which encompasses those political and military institutions that engage the world with physical force. Challens argues that America’s survival is contingent upon replacing the current warrior ethos with a new paradigm guided by ethics.

A native of Colorado, Challens is a West Point graduate and earned masters and doctorate degrees in philosophy at the Johns Hopskins University. For more than ten years he taught over a thousand military students from the rank of cadet to colonel, at West Point (USMA), the Command and General Staff College (CGSC), and the School for Advanced Military Studies (SAMS).
