FDR quote on the Essence of Fascism
"The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. "
-Franklin D. Roosevelt, "Message from the President of the United States Transmitting Recommendations Relative to the Strengthening and Enforcement of Anti-trust Laws"

James Madison's Mars in Capricorn & Continual Warfare
"A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defense against foreign danger have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretense of defending, have enslaved the people."
- James Madison, speech at the Constitutional Convention, June 29, 1787
"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people.
"The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals, engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."
-JM "Political Observations" April 20, 1795
Here's my remembrance of James Madison from March 2010 which contains a link to his natal chart. Born March 16, 1751 (NS), James Madison has a brilliant Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Aquarius and Mars @ 11Cap49 which is being transited as I type by the North Node of the Moon, a point of public contact or encounter.
Ah yes, Mars exalted in Capricorn: ruled by cautious Saturn, this placement for fiery Mars gives its native an ability to focus energy in the most efficient manner possible, a constructive way of doing things, and much circumspection before action is taken by way of preconceived plans. Jimmy would never have rushed America into war, based on lies or otherwise.
Mr. Madison not only knew better, he cared better for our nation.
And you may as well know that I am unabashedly partial to former first lady Dolley Madison, too. She wasn't simply stylish in her day - she showed spunk under fire on behalf of America! And now, with barbaric neo-fascists at America's gate, it's time to defend our nation again! - edit: August 21, 2022 - jc.

American Empire we hardly knew ya
History can be a tiresomely accurate predictor of the future. Therefore, given the tendency of empires to collapse under their own unwieldy weights, it's quite possible that the Collapse of the American Empire may occur even sooner than we expect.
Has the big fat rump of imperialism spread about as far as it can go?

Is 2010 Ousting Time for the US Congress?
Well, it should be.
As I always complain: 99.9% of them are in it together with their fraternity of the ruling class taking precedence in every department over the American people and over our nation's sovereignty.
Actually, I'm not fully certain of the motives of the remaining .1%, now that I think about it. Are you?
It's time to retire the old saw about the American people being fed up with congress members - except for their own. Even if the subject's poll numbers are accurate, we must get over our "but our rep/senator is dandy - it's the other ones that are corrupt" beliefs which play into Washington's class warfare script perfectly and help keep we-the-people divided, conquered, and completely ineffectual where our own interests are concerned.

On auditing the Fed
Fed Would Be Shut Down If It Were Audited, Expert Says
By CNBC.com
With $45 billion in capital and $2.1 trillion in assets, the central bank would not withstand the scrutiny afforded other institutions. #
But wouldn't that be the fox auditing the henhouse's books? And how would they know which set is the real one? It's a big mess when thieves can no longer do business with thieves, isn't it?

Henry Ford on the US monetary system
Here's a Quote Sandwich for you with Henry Ford and Dick Armey as the bread and spent-out US consumers as the filling:
"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning."
Henry Ford (1863-1947) Founder of Ford Motor Company
~:~
"The entire world economy rests on the consumer; if he ever stops spending money he doesn't have on things he doesn't need -- we're done for."
Bill Bonner - Editor of The Daily Reckoning - April 3, 2003
~:~
"Three groups spend other people's money: children, thieves, politicians. All three need supervision."
Dick Armey - (1940- ) US Congressman, TX-R

Holbrooke wrong for job says Scott Ritter
The Wrong Man for the Job
By Scott Ritter
It is highly doubtful that Holbrooke will bring anything more to the table than cheer leading. President Obama's stated intention to increase the size of the US military presence in Afghanistan and to more forcefully assert US-imposed "security" through continued military action in the Northwest Frontier of Pakistan is a dangerous scheme, one Holbrooke will enthusiastically support. #
~:~
Holbrooke a cheerleader? Then he favors Jingo George!
President Obama's Afghanistan plans sound like Very Bad Ideas to me, but what does a gnat like me know?
If Orwell was right (and I believe he was/is) then 'endless war' is the aim of certain movers and shakers and da*n the torpedos and the populace. Population control is a side effect they can easily live with.
The politics and politicians I whine...er...blog about constantly are only the political arm (or tentacles) of the monster, and like Hydra in the myth, the octopus' ugliness should be lifted into the light of day - into awareness - to interrupt its devouring of the good with the bad, the baby with the bath water, and innocent civilians with psychotic criminals who cynically and cruelly use them as political 'shields'.

Chomsky: US capitalism anti-democratic
Anti-Democratic Nature of US Capitalism is Being Exposed
By Noam Chomsky
"Bretton Woods was the system of global financial management set up at the end of the second World War to ensure the interests of capital did not smother wider social concerns in post-war democracies. It was hated by the US neoliberals - the very people who created the banking crisis," writes Noam Chomsky. #

In searching this blog for references to the Bretton Woods Treaty (which established the World Bank) I discovered a small mention in my post on the day of the mysterious fire in the VP's office of Dec 19, 2007...remember?

American Schizophrenia?
" ... the United States, for generations, has sustained two parallel but opposed states of mind about military atrocities and human rights: one of US benevolence, generally held by the public, and the other of ends-justify-the-means brutality sponsored by counter insurgency specialists. Normally the specialists carry out their actions in remote locations with little notice in the national press.
That allows the public to sustain its faith in a just America, while hard-nosed security and economic interests are still protected in secret."
Robert Parry, investigative reporter and author
~:~
Quote snagged from the Information Clearing House Newsletter.
End of August/early Sep 2009 brings the Saturn conjunction to US natal Neptune, planet of ideals and illusions (the 'facing grim reality' transit) which may bring revelations of atrocities which the American people will be shocked to discover as leaden Saturn brings accountability to stomp on our delusional dreams. Just a thought, and not a very nice one.
