June 25, 2015: SCOTUS upholds Obamacare again as Nemesis rises

June 25, 2015: Today, in a 6--3 ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the subsidies in President Obama's Affordable Health Care Act, aka, Obamacare.

As a symbolic horoscope for this event I'm looking at a chart set for Washington DC at 10:00 am the hour that SCOTUS ruulings are generally announced and a mildly surprising picture forms: asteroids Sisyphus (determination--though efforts may be fruitless) and Nemesis (the unbeatable foe) arise on the Ascendant (24Leo) along with transit Jupiter (expansion, growth, investment, development, ideals, politics) @20Leo conjunct transit Isis. Isis!

Naturally, Republicans are now and will continue to play the "fight isn't over" card (Sisyphus) though this ruling has excused them from having to come up with an actual solution for America's ailing health care system while being responsible for a regression to how it was prior to March 23, 2010 when @POTUS signed the ACA with 22 pens. This 'excuse' applies to Campaign 2016 candidates who will probably bark the loudest (guess they feel they must to satisfy "the base" and their anti-ACA political funders) and it will really gather steam if a Republican president is (s)elected on November 8, 2016.

And if we look to the 10:00 am horoscope's Midheaven (MC) degree, the Aspirations-Goal and Why? Point of any horoscope, we find '19 Taurus' with its interesting Sabian Symbol when considering American politics and the motivation of today's SCOTUS ruling concerning this controversial Act:

"A newly formed continent rises out of the ocean" (Rudhyar), an obvious reference to America as a 'New Atlantis' and the establishment of a 'new world order' in 1776. In his The Sabian Symbols in Astrology, Marc Edmund Jones gives potentials for positive and negative expressions of this degree:

Positive: a revolutionary potentiality by which each individual is enabled to remodel the entire face of the universe.

Negative (shadow side--jc): a genius for futile turmoil and persistent upset.

To me the negative expression of 19Taurus describes conservative US politicians to a T as they pose within their Political Theater performances which these days tend to serve as "governing" in America though it takes enough enabling Democrats to bring the New World Order script authored by foreign corporate meddlers to life.

June 9, 2015: President Obama Speaks on Health Care Successes - video

President Obama makes the moral case for the Affordable Health Care Act just days before SCOTUS rules on the law and may delete subsidies for those who need them to afford health insurance:

"Obamacare begins" (The Daily Show video)

During the current government shutdown, comedians are having such an easy time of it making monkeys out of looney GOP parrots who are trying to be so very clever over the Affordable Health Care Act, aka, Obamacare.

One of my concerns has been hacking and denial of service attacks against the Healthcare.gov website by POTUS' opponents who will do whatever it takes to ruin President Obama's agenda and legacy. Another concern is the potential for customers' private medical and financial info to be stolen. Is there anyone who can't see that coming?

It seems there are at least two methods for technical interference.

But then there is our out-of-bounds government, always snooping on the innocent, and, via the set-up of this massive medical program, having access to (and imagined ownership of) every person's DNA for targeting and controlling purposes.

Perhaps you've noticed an increase in genome mapping kit ads? The 23andme is the one I'm seeing in this TV market--and hey! It's only $99!

Well, ancient writings including the Bible do advise everyone to, Know Thyself, yet somehow I'm uncertain that the DNA-cellular level is the sort of knowing they intended.

Okay, so maybe I'm being old-fashioned about this, or, maybe someone wants to make a list of who's in whose bloodline...?

Looking ahead to November midterms 2010

While Democrats pushed through a jobs bill that kept the doors open at local schools, hospitals, and senior centers, Republicans voted to lay off hundreds of thousands of Americans.

While Democrats looked out for us, paying for this bill by eliminating corporate loopholes, Republicans looked out for CEOs who shipped jobs overseas.

It's a clear choice this November. Either we open doors to a better future, or we slam the door in its face.

~:~

The above words are not my own. They came with the video (thanks, Alex!) but I have to say that the Republican Party prefers Big Corporations even more than the Democratic Party does.

Or at least I feel less left out with Democrats in charge.

Yeah, that's some choice the American people have for November midterms but I've never ever voted for George W. Bush before so you certainly won't catch me voting for Bush-Cheney policies this November 2010. You?

For if the GOP should wrest control of the House or Senate in November, the resulting gridlock will tie this country into more knots than we've ever before seen at a critical time when things need to improve, not stagnate in Washington.

Now I'm not a big fan of the health insurance legislation that was passed because I don't think it addressed our issues well enough and will cause rising costs for the American people, at least in the short run. But the middle class will not appreciate Republicans fighting that battle over ad nauseum, along with other battles against a Dem White House, just to score political points for their side and make themselves look important.

One thing we cannot do in November, however, is stay home, not vote, and let the GOP trample over us as they did for 8 years under Bush-Cheney. How are we liking the wars Bush-Cheney started and refused to finish? Because those neocon warhawks are what we'll be voting for in November if we vote GOP. That, I refuse to do.

And all this comes from a blogging gnat who doesn't believe the US actually has a two-party system. More Independents, please!

Now imagine if everyone in the nation got behind President Obama - and if his policies didn't work, like FDR, he and we would try something else. Actually, I thought that's what our collective plan was from January 20, 2009. And no, the Democrats are no angels, but who tossed the monkey wrench of obstructionism into our plan out of sheer spite and cussedness for losing the White House?

Predictably, it's the rabid Republican Party which seems to think they have a 'divine right' to rule. They did no soul searching when they lost in 2008. They took their same old deficiencies and prejudices and beat Mr. Obama over the head with them. I was one of those who said, Shut up. You lost. But they plowed through led by Rush's "I hope he fails" ploy. One assumes the rest of Rush's sentiment involves the failing of the nation as well since presidents-r-us.

And that's after we crashed into the ditch the GOP drove us into under Bush-Cheney with Limbaugh cheering them on! So who profited most from those 8 years? Maybe you. But it certainly wasn't the majority of the American people.

Well, if Washington politicians aren't going to legislate on Capitol Hill led by the party in power without resorting to this sort of stubborn undermining and trickery by the minority party until the nation is in worse trouble than before, why not reduce our government to only one party in name as it acts in deed? Call a ruling class a ruling class and forget the tiresome theatrics.

When the power and ego games they play leave we-the-people and our pressing business out of the political process, it's our right to kick them out of Washington. In the 2010 midterms, I'll vote Dem or Independent, but I can't think of one single Republican who deserves a chance in November to show me what he or she can do. Their party's actions and ideology of the past 10 years have shown me too well what they can do and will do if they gain a majority of seats in either chamber.

They'll ramp up the nastiness against the White House, gridlock everything, and once again the American people will be the collateral damage of the 'win at any cost' tactics that much of Washington loves so well.

Is more gridlock what we need at this critical juncture?

Or should we support the White House we have while letting Mr. Obama know when we - not the power-seeking opponents trying to undermine him - don't agree with his policies?

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Sun Aries-Moon Scorpio

Happy Birthday to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi who was born into a political family in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 26, 1940, debuting as the youngest of 6 children.

On March 26, 1940, the Moon remained in Scorpio for the 24-hour period so without knowing the Speaker's birth time, we may confidently surmise a Fire-Water Sun Aries/Moon Scorpio personality blend. And as you know, Fire and Water equal steam.

The Sun Ari/Moon Sco blend is one of personal integrity, open-mindedness, a biting wittiness, and deep passions. This combo is highly motivated, forceful and powerful, self-dramatizing, and has much charisma. Drive, energy, and tenacity are evident as a person with this natal combo finds direct or indirect ways of achieving goals.

There can be an upfront impatient, naive, trusting approach to the world yet backed underneath with suspicion and doubt. Slow-burning determination melds with a go-for-it gusto - for if they don't meld, relationships fall apart amid bitter conflicts.

With its act together, a person with this combo becomes an unstoppable, co-operative leader determined to 'set the world to rights' while leaving its mark. Some people see this blend as brash and pushy yet none can doubt the strong commitment to aims along the chosen path. Yet Sun Ari/Moon Sco does care about others' good opinions because it longs for approval and applause from others. But when plans are blocked, bitterness can set in.

A secret weapon is self-belief which bestows a formidable will to achieve and a natural gift for strategy for this is a combo of a natural leader. And yet Nancy Pelosi wants to be thought well of as she puts causes ahead of herself. This blend gives a talent for psychological insight and is supported by her natal Sun (5 - 7 Aries) conjunct asteroid Psyche. (A prominent Psyche may give her psychic abilities, too.)

The tendency to take a real disliking to certain people may result in an arrogant, rude, and bloody-minded approach which opponents have certainly noticed before now. A belief in the worth of the individual is a strength along with a capacity for pushing through ideas and plans against all obstacles and this may cause others to see Speaker Pelosi as overbearing and ruthless, for she can be.

(Of course, Independent me says 'good' to the last part because at least she isn't a Republican.)

Images for Integration: Charlie Chaplin saves a maiden in distress...A passionate woman sells herself for her cause...The Godfather films. (Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles and Suzi Harvey.)

Does she make offers her opponents and colleagues can't refuse?

The Sun Aries/Moon Scorpio blend is shared natally by Charlie Chaplin (obviously), Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Anita Bryant (!), Francis Ford Coppola (hence The Godfather films), Thornton Wilder, David Frost, Henry James, Leslie Howard ('Ashley' in Gone with the Wind), Hayley Mills (a 60s fave of mine), Arturo Toscanini, Dudley Moore, and Wilhelm Rontgen (discoverer of x-rays.)

Well, Nancy Pelosi held a Reconciliation Bill Enrollment Ceremony which she signed at 10:16 am edt this morning (C-SPAN) so it now goes to the President to bolster his Health Insurance Reform law. And now you know a little more about our determined Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of Baltimore, Maryland.

President signs Health Insurance Reform Bill w/ Neptune to US Moon: 3.23.10

22 Signing Pens, 2 per letter.

While I was typing the following post, President Obama signed into law his Health Insurance Reform legislation at 11:55 am edt, White House, with South Node 17Can59 in 1st house which indicates the historical nature of the signing event. However, SN rising can indicate difficulties keeping the bill anchored into being for SN has a separative, Saturnian effect.

And yet, Saturn adores laws and regulations! US natal Venus (valuable commodities) is rising with our natal Jupiter in tow.

ASC '3Can' = "A Man All Bundled Up in Fur Leading a Shaggy Reindeer."

Mercury, ruler of signings, bills, agreements, trade and commerce is nearing Midheaven @ 12Aries04...'13Ari' = "A Bomb Which Failed to Explode Is Safely Concealed." Hmm. Might this describe something hidden in the bill that we're not going to like, or to a rescue of our tottering health care system? Or perhaps both?

The ongoing T-Square between Sun/Saturn and apex Pluto is morphed into a Grand Cross in time for the bill signing ceremony: Moon, Sun, Saturn, and Pluto...dynamic efforts amount to high achievements!

At 11:55 am edt, a 1st house Moon '6Can' conjoins US natal Jupiter indicating much publicity for the event - and happy people across the land having a reigning need fulfilled (except in smokey GOP dens of his opponents and those citizens emotionally activated by undermining rhetoric against a Dem President.) Well, I for one hope the reforms aid someone besides special interests and old manipulative string-puller, Pluto.

Perfecting during the glad-handing and pen-sharing that took place in the minutes after the bill was signed is a midpoint picture that includes the Sun (leader):

Sun/Uranus = MC (The Goal): reformers, inventors, technicians; restless people with far-reaching plans; experiencing the impact of sudden events; major events in support of big plans (NWO? DNA collection for all?); hopeful triumph for the ego.

In his midpoints book, Michael Munkasey says that Sun/Uranus energies were in effect at the time the first-ever Medicaid patient applied to the program! #

My original post begins here with no edits because I gotta motor into the city:

Ever since Health Insurance Reform was passed (and sent on to the Senate March 21, 2010) it's been bothering me that this week's entire political theater production on Capitol Hill has been performed with transiting Neptune sitting directly upon America's natal Moon (we-the-people; 27AQ10.) Confusions, deceptions (including self-deception), fraud, and propaganda have been coming upon us for some time given Neptune's slow-mo movements but now that the gaseous giant is here, we get Health Insurance Reform, and possibly financial reform, too.

Since the numbers of health care workers needed are not available to attend to the new 'millions' who will soon have insurance, and since the bill's cost savings are more than a little squirrelly, I'm feeling more than a little like we've been had by the 'shell game' the GOP has accused the Obama administration of using for this giant legislation. Of course, around this blog, it takes one shell gamer to know one, so the Republicans obviously know whereof they gamingly speak.

The Neptune to natal Moon transit has been detailed here previously but in case you, lone reader, have landed here for the first time, let's consider it again.

First, a Neptune transit has ab orb of influence and, as I said, it's been coming on a while and will be in effect a while longer. The transit includes such things as a sense of rootlessness, losing homes to foreclosure, dissolving of commitments (and of contracts made by and for the people) - all in all, an unstable period for everything that relates to the Moon, the body which signifies the people in a national chart. Plus, Neptune relates to mass media, with various toutings being brought to us by...Neptune, the illusionist.

Stability for this legislation will have to be brought by other factors for Neptune-to-n-Moon isn't good anchorage for staying power. And we know that repeal arguments are being rehearsed as I type so we may never hear the end of it. Great. Mr. Obama's opponents will do what they can to undermine the bill's effectiveness, too, no matter what it costs the American people for the GOP to score political points while clawing their way into office.

Yes, multiple mysteries abound with Neptune to US n Moon, posited in our n 3rd house of Communications, Neighborhoods, Grade Schools, Siblings, and the Lower Mind; third house also relates to health through the mind-body connection so with Tinkerbell Neptune's magic wand touching us, perhaps we have health insurance if we simply believe we do - or, with Neptune's more rare dreams-can-come-true effect, perhaps this legislation will catalyze improvements in our health care system which are sorely needed. Neptune might, but the motivations of the people involved are a quite a different question.

And yet it's hard to pinpoint what one really wants with Neptune sitting all over one's Moon, for the Moon rules our reigning needs; ours is in Aquarius, a transpersonal sign of brotherhood. Giving all Americans access to better health care (at the point when it's needed, not after the disease-ridden horses have escaped the barn and it's too late to be saved - 'saved' is a Neptunian word, as is 'escaped') - access for all Americans is one of the touts of this legislation from the Obama administration (the touters.) Perhaps 32 million Americans will soon agree.

However, Neptune to natal Moon is a time when conditions are difficult if not impossible to diagnose including physical complaints, or, the wrong diagnosis may be given. Hopefully, this does not describe the Health Insurance Reform legislation that's about to become the law of the land while curing what ails us. (It did become law at 11:55 am edt, see above Update.)

But will the reforms deliver a wrong diagnosis?

Without addressing health care costs rising into the stratosphere, the 'savings' of this bill over time may not help matters much on that score, yet I hope the bill's magical effects are more real than they seem at present especially since there's another dreamy Neptunian thing that tends to accompany a Neptune to n Moon transit: loss through theft and/or carelessness.

One major theft we know of already: the public option has been stolen from the bill! And my concern about nationwide DNA collection may be considered theft if a patient is unaware of it. (After your DNA is snagged, it belongs to them, not you.)

That Neptune rules drugs, legal and otherwise, isn't comforting either unless the transit brings us medical marijuana for those who need an appetite boost, mood lift, and pain relief for their serious conditions. That would be a positive outcome, imo, although you may disagree. My feeling is that if a person is dying or suffering grievously, what business is it of mine - or the government's - to cruelly dictate what he may take to lessen his misery.

Well, here's an article on the subject of the health insurance reform bill. It asserts that the reform is from the top down rather than from the 'bottom up' as we've heard from the Obama administration (like Neptune's wand from on-high: presto change-o, you're covered! But with what?)

Yes, the bill's reforms have been fashioned by Washington think tanks behind the American people's backs...such a perfect description of veiling Neptune to US natal Moon...'tanks' being a watery Neptunian word.

Message from the President on Health Insurance Reform passage

Here's a copy of the message that turned up in my Inbox this morning with words of thanks from President Barack Obama. Actually, I didn't do that much, really...

"For the first time in our nation's history, Congress has passed comprehensive health care reform. America waited a hundred years and fought for decades to reach this moment. Tonight, thanks to you, we are finally here.

Consider the staggering scope of what you have just accomplished:

Because of you, every American will finally be guaranteed high quality, affordable health care coverage.

Every American will be covered under the toughest patient protections in history. Arbitrary premium hikes, insurance cancellations, and discrimination against pre-existing conditions will now be gone forever.

And we'll finally start reducing the cost of care -- creating millions of jobs, preventing families and businesses from plunging into bankruptcy, and removing over a trillion dollars of debt from the backs of our children.

But the victory that matters most tonight goes beyond the laws and far past the numbers.

It is the peace of mind enjoyed by every American, no longer one injury or illness away from catastrophe.

It is the workers and entrepreneurs who are now freed to pursue their slice of the American dream without fear of losing coverage or facing a crippling bill.

And it is the immeasurable joy of families in every part of this great nation, living happier, healthier lives together because they can finally receive the vital care they need.

This is what change looks like.

My gratitude tonight is profound. I am thankful for those in past generations whose heroic efforts brought this great goal within reach for our times. I am thankful for the members of Congress whose months of effort and brave votes made it possible to take this final step. But most of all, I am thankful for you.

This day is not the end of this journey. Much hard work remains, and we have a solemn responsibility to do it right. But we can face that work together with the confidence of those who have moved mountains.

Our journey began three years ago, driven by a shared belief that fundamental change is indeed still possible. We have worked hard together every day since to deliver on that belief.

We have shared moments of tremendous hope, and we've faced setbacks and doubt. We have all been forced to ask if our politics had simply become too polarized and too short-sighted to meet the pressing challenges of our time. This struggle became a test of whether the American people could still rally together when the cause was right -- and actually create the change we believe in.

Tonight, thanks to your mighty efforts, the answer is indisputable: Yes we can.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama"

Yet is the President's legislative victory last evening clearly an historic moment?

Health Reform passing, Scorpio Rising March 21, 2010

So comprehensive health insurance reform passed Sunday night (Ds garnered 216 votes @ 11:37 pm edt) and President Obama spoke from the East Room (stuff you've heard before) from 11:46 pm edt to 11:55 pm est.

One bill goes on to the Senate for more passage, and the other lands on the President's desk for signing later in the week, last I heard. An executive order is meant to kibosh federal abortion funding that may or may not be lurking.

This evening (though it's now Monday 2:25 am edt) the Rising sign/degree over the Capitol Building at 11:37 pm edt March 21, 2010, when the vote tally passed 216 was @ 23Sco24 with Fixed Star Agena rising; Hour of Mercury 8Ari58 (votes! bills! In 5th house of Gambling and Risk-Taking); Rx Pallas (strategy; wisdom) rises in Scorpio, too, and Scorpio is the sign of surgeries, recuperation, and regeneration. And of course, snakes are the healing element symbolized on the Caduceus, associated with Mercury - and tonight the Sun conjoined Hermes, the magician and alchemist!

At Midheaven (The Goal) 4Vir46, the nation's Secondary Progressed Sun is in full view; chart-ruler Mars is tangled with Jupiter in an applying sesqui-square, an 'interlaced square' of dynamic energy. Yet there is good news for warrior Mars: he's applying to a helpful sextile with old man Saturn who now lowers his bony bones once again upon US natal MC (Sibly 00Lib53.) Accountability and responsibility for all the world to see. Wonder what the passage of this reform might do to world markets?

The Cardinal T-Square awaits Uranus to leave nebulous Pisces and reach Aries; until then, Sun-Saturn-Pluto will have to do for plutonian obstacles. If mandatory vaccinations and any kind of surreptitious DNA collection are results of this legislation with its hidden provisions snugged within, I'm going to be really annoyed. If the financial discrepancies in the final bill continue to be questioned, the bill's opponents may just be correct to doubt the legislation's funding and supposed 'cost-savings' which are projected so far into the future and are too much based on possibilities as to feel like a mighty big leap into what could be a prickly Briar Patch.

Moon 14Gem59 in 7th house of Partnerships is out-of-bounds indicating an insecure populace; even many of us who think we might end up with health reform legislation that benefits someone besides those of the wealthy class are wondering just what surprise is tucked inside its dewy pages. Moon '15Gem' = "Two Dutch Children Talking" and I'm quite certain they are.

Venus 18Ari10 conjuncts asteroid, Pandora, who tends to expand circumstances with her 'unintended consequences' rippling out into the environment...Venus, accustomed to dealing with valuable things, is excitably gambling in the 5th house.

Sun Aries/Moon Gemini is a live-wire Fire-Air blend which has three interesting Images for Integration: 'A fencing master carries off the prize...A racing driver plays the piano to relax...Hayden's Farewell Symphony.' (Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles & Suzi Harvey.)

The zest and quick thinking of the Aries/Gemini combo are legendary along with great entrepreneurial skills, a good eye for opportunity (an oft-repeated word tonight by Speaker Pelosi and others), and a knack for keeping things bubbling along.

Yet this blend is a starter and not much of a finisher, so other factors will need to be supplied to keep the Dems on track (Mars sextile Saturn? Sun trine Mars? Lots of talent and cooperation there.) Still, it is a blend of a 'great persuader' with a will to win and lots of courage to get the job done. The chart looks as if a lot of telephone calling went on and I believe that that would describe President Obama's role in recent days.

And 'influence of a woman' is all over the 11:37 pm edt chart as well which is no big surprise with a Democratic Speaker of the House (and other ladies) helping push the legislation through like...well, like a difficult birth.

Here are a few keywords for Agena from Anthony Louis' Horary Astrology(Agena has the nature of: VENUS, JUPITER; Mars, Mercury):

High status, honors, a good organizer; sarcasm, scandal, gossip, cleverness, and success with the masses.

All the versions of the Health Insurance Reform legislation have been watered down almost beyond recognition, but...there it is.

Senate's final vote 7 am 12.24.09: Venus rising and the Serpent Holder

Okay, we're tryin' to pack in here and I said I was off the blogging clock earlier today but I can't resist mentioning the horoscope for tomorrow morning's final vote in the Senate on a health insurance reform bill or some such: Dec 24, 2009 @ 7:00 am est Capitol Building, DC; Hour Saturn, ASC 26Sag05, Venus rising 28Sag25 conjunct Fixed Star Aculeus (attacks which strengthen)

Vision-related Aculeus and Acumen are stars of the most southern constellation, Scorpio, with Acumen's keywords, enduring attacks which weaken. Scorpio's brightest star is Antares, well known for its link to being obsessed with success.

But it's the mythology of this area of the celestial sphere that interests me the most: Scorpius, the Scorpion, keeps the Sun in its degrees for only 9 days; the remaining 21 days the Sun is actually in Ophiuchus, The Serpent Holder. Thus, from the Bible comes a reference to health care, doctors, and healing.

Plus, Ophiuchus is anciently connected with Osiris and his son, Horus, and contains Graffias, another star in Scorpio, which is intimately linked with America's natal chart, and in Sacred Geometry of Freemasons and other secretive groups. This health insurance overhaul bill is a big deal. That they don't tell us just what it means is the scary part.

Ex: is Codex Alimentarius secretly embedded within for Dec 31, 2009 implementation? We'd better hope not. Besides. I knew it was you, Monsanto. (Dec 31 is the Blue Moon Eclipse which is noted in the post.)

As you know, God of the Underworld, powerful surgery-related Pluto transforms as a snake sheds its skin. His is life-death power and @ 3Cap02, he's quite snug with the Sun 2Cap49; power simply shines from the chart as well as a love of valuable things.

And with Venus oriental in the 'final vote 7:00 am' chart, we know that dealing with valuable things is coming up for the Senate this morning. But the rest of 'Venus oriental' (last planet to rise before the Sun rises) are people who need personalized work functions, putting their stamps on things, as it were.

In fact, evaluation of their work is often substituted for any direct evaluation of them personally. You see, if they knew how they are really viewed or thought of, they would have difficulty accepting or believing it.

With Venus oriental, we often witness people whose public relations images take the place of their private persona as is often done with public figures such as politicians, actors, musicians, artists, etc...provinces of beauty-loving primp, Venus, the Lady of the Hour in the US natal chart (5:10 pm LMT; Venus' metal is copper = Statue of Liberty.) (Tyl.)

So in the health insurance reform brouhaha I only wish someone had asked - or did they? - about Codex Alimentarius hiding stealthily in the bill and its draconian-sounding Dec 31 'benchmark'--or is it a deadline? Seems to me the Codex of genetically modified materials and who-knows-what additives would be just such a secret bomb to lay within a gargantuan piece of legislation that, if made into law, will slip past the American public much more than meets their gullets in a perfect world.

What are they doing to us?

Email from Pres.Obama on Health Insurance Reform

Here is the email I received from President Obama concerning the 60-vote success for Dems in the Senate this morning at 1:01 am est with Sirius about to culminate over Washington, DC along with US natal Sun.

Perhaps I should reply to the president that I had absolutely nothing to do with their theatrical vote and don't trust the motives of the majority of them as far as I can see them with my eyes closed:

Dear Jude,

Early this morning, the Senate made history and health reform cleared its most important hurdle yet -- garnering the 60 votes needed to move toward a final vote in that chamber later this week.

This marks the first time in our nation's history that comprehensive health reform has come to this point. And it appears that the American people will soon realize the genuine reform that offers security to those who have health insurance and affordable options to those who do not.

I'm grateful to Senator Harry Reid and every senator who's been working around the clock to make this happen. And I'm grateful to you, and every member of the Organizing for America community, for all the work you have done to make this progress possible.

After a nearly century-long struggle, we are now on the cusp of making health insurance reform a reality in the United States of America.

As with any legislation, compromise is part of the process. But I'm pleased that recently added provisions have made this landmark bill even stronger. Between the time when the bill passes and the time when the insurance exchanges get up and running, insurance companies that try to jack up their rates do so at their own peril. Those who hike their prices may be barred from selling plans on the exchanges.

And while insurance companies will be prevented from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions once the exchanges are open, in the meantime there will be a high-risk pool where people with pre-existing conditions can purchase affordable coverage.

A recent amendment has made these protections even stronger. Insurance companies will now be prohibited from denying coverage to children immediately after this bill passes. There's also explicit language in this bill that will protect a patient's choice of doctor. And small businesses will get additional assistance as well.

These protections are in addition to the ones we've been talking about for some time. No longer will insurance companies be able to drop your coverage if you become sick and no longer will you have to pay unlimited amounts out of your own pocket for treatments that you need.

Under this bill families will save on their premiums; businesses that would see their costs rise if we don't act will save money now and in the future. This bill will strengthen Medicare and extend the life of the program. Because it's paid for and gets rid of waste and inefficiency in our health care system, this will be the largest deficit reduction plan in over a decade.

Finally, this reform will extend coverage to more than 30 million Americans who don't have it.

These are not small changes. These are big changes. They're fundamental reforms. They will save money. They will save lives.

And your passion, your work, your organizing helped make all of this possible. Now it's time to finish the job.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Well, at least he didn't begin the email with "Hey, Jude." I just hope the fine promises he mentions amount to something positive for the American people - and thus for the rest of the world.
