If you study the natal horoscope of the United States of America you know that there are several versions of it set for various hours and dates. July 4, 1776 is the date shown on the Declaration of Independence and the Founders seem to have promoted that date as America's 'birthday'. Plus, as everyone knows, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both passed away exactly 50 years later on July 4, 1826--such synchronicity! So *Chiron with its 50-year orbit!

In fact, we can read Mr. Jefferson's newspaper obituary online if we wish. It gives the time of Jefferson's death as 12:50 pm LMT and asserts that this is during the same hour that the Declaration of Independence was agreed upon. Or ratified. Whatever. On July 4, 1776.

Beginning in mid-August 1776, the Declaration of Independence was published in British newspapers (letting the cat out of the bag) and was understandably met with rebuttals and criticism. British officials in North America had sent along copies of our 'break-up letter' and the message was not taken in good part, shall we say.

Actually it's the timing of the publishing in Britain that interests me tonight for it tallies well with a certain Solar Eclipse which manifested on August 14, 1776 in the 13 North Saros Series (13N.) The themes are descriptive of a relationship break-up as you may agree: 'large ambitious group projects that require a separation or the breaking of an existing bond which then leads to joint achievement" (paraphrasing Brady's Predictive Astrology.)

Leo-Leo: a Double-Fire "Larger Than Life" Combination

And that's what manifested under the rays of the 13 North Solar Eclipse--suitably this was the initial eclipse in the series (as America was 'new' and 'first') and fell upon 21Leo52 with 'scribe' Mercury (documents; signings) @9Leo52, Venus @22Leo46, Mars @18Can13 (touchy emotions!), Jupiter @14Can40, authoritative Saturn @17Lib12, Uranus @10Gem33, Neptune @23Vir28, Pluto Rx @26Cap38, and North Node @5Leo28.

As you see, some planets remain in the signs they were in on July 4, 1776 with these exceptions: Sun, Moon, Mercury (not Rx as on July 4, 1776--the Declaration was mainly signed on August 2, 1776 with Mercury direct), Venus, and Mars. Yet because the fuller signing took place on August 2, 1776--within two weeks of the 13N eclipse--I allege that 13N influenced the signing of the Declaration as well as its publishing in Britain.

Basically, the bromance was over. For a while...

Recent years in which 13N has occurred are: 1902, 1920, 1938, 1956, 1974, 1992, 2011, and will next manifest in 2029. The Series will end on September 12, 3020.

*US natal Chiron @21Aries = "A Pugilist Entering the Ring" and with Chiron returning to natal degree near the day of the two Founders' deaths, we see that two of our top 'pugilists' of our Revolution years had left the ring of life.

August 2014: New Millennium Horoscope Triggered by Pluto

With US military action increasing in Iraq against ISIS (formerly al-Qaeda) there are multiple horoscopes in which to look for planetary activity relating to Iraq and Iraq War planets. One such is the New Millennium (NM) horoscope where transit Pluto in Capricorn (11/12Cap) now retrogrades between New Millennium Sun and Mercury in 4th house, the Foundation of the Matter (4th house, when the NM chart is set for Washington DC as a symbol for America and on another level, for the global collective.

We may glean a few hints about the character of this time period by considering the *Sun-Mercury duo as it affects Politics and Business and the synthesis created when transformative manipulator Pluto creeps along and catalyzes the duo into a trio of planetary energies, thus forming a midpoint picture. Let's consider potential expressions for this now-active trio:

Millennium Sun-Mercury = tr Pluto: satellites transmit important information world-wide; important information concealed; theft, neglect, or loss of pertinent communication devices or of information (Munkasey); making far-reaching plans; an orator with suggestive power (Ebertin); a dramatic push to new perspectives (Tyl.)

That last potential seems to be occurring as I type with the US being 'drawn back' into Iraq, as many pundits are describing it. Got weapons manufacturing shares in your stock portfolio? Well, I suspect that many American politicians, past and present, have just that.

New Millennium Fourth House Matters

The IC (Immum Coeli), the lowest point in any horoscope symbolizing Midnight and often considered the cusp of the 4th house, is also known as The Drain and I think we may expect draining of various sorts to occur here and abroad for some time. (Watch for the word 'drain' in the news in coming weeks or months.) So instead of an Ending (another IC-related concept) of all US combat in Iraq we have now a continuation of military intervention "for humanitarian reasons", one of the US government's favorite propaganda slogans. Can any war be "humanitarian"? This may or may not be the case and as always, I prefer to wait for the consequences of Washington's actions rather than trusting promises (and time-worn slogans) touted by politicians and their enablers, bosses, and media supporters!

Now this seems to me like yet another bull-in-a-china-shop mistake of large proportions if you don't mind my saying so. If it winds up quickly that will be one thing but will there be more to come...on and on and on. Cheney had America invade Iraq with one consequence--it broke up what was a black market oil scam. Now control (one of Pluto's words) of Iraq's oil is being taken over by ISIS beheaders, all or in part at this juncture.

Astrological Pluto also stands for assassins (which can describe both ISIS soldiers and the USA, CIA, etc), death, destruction, abomination, and other depraved, morbid things. 'Great wealth hidden in secret places' is another calling card of Pluto of the Invisible Cape, and of course, spies and powerful puppet masters also appear on Pluto's resume.

Then there's the *Sun-Mercury duo which relates to such things as media coverage, a leader's ability to communicate, stating the intention of an enterprise clearly--or a lack of clarity and thus being unconvincing, ineffective press briefings, needs don't mesh with business concerns, many language barriers, defective thinking or reasoning (Washington is 'eat up' with that and makes innocent people suffer from it), and more. Perhaps you're aware of how major famine now threatens the good people of south Sudan with fighting making things worse by keeping aid and supplies from reaching those who desperately need them. 'Insult to injury' hardly describes these horrendous conditions. Is the world ashamed? It ought to be.

For astrologers who don't happen to have handy the natal data for Sudan I shall post it here from Campion's The Book of World Horoscopes. Naturally the details are from historic record--a solemn ceremony marked the official recognition of Sudan's full and legal independence; therefore the following may be used to set up the country's 'natal chart':

Sudan January 1, 1956 8:00 am EET -2:00 Khartoum. ASC 4AQ31; 12th house Sun @9Cap48; Moon in 7th house @23Leo05. The New Moon of July 26, 2014 (EDT) @4Leo conjoined Sudan's natal Descendant with its rebellious Uranus @1Leo09 Rx just dipped below Dewsc in the 6th house of Work, Health, Service including the military.

As transit Saturn (restriction, austerity, loss, deprivation) has traversed Scorpio 'the old man' visited Sudan's natal Neptune @00Sco09 (where the next Solar Eclipse will manifest in October), n MC @14Sco52, and 10th house Mars (21Sco36) and---Saturn @28Sco55 making it Sudan's Saturn Return with its demand for accountability.

As you see, natal Sun has been hit by transformative Pluto of late bringing power struggles galore. Pluto will eventually meet with natal Mercury @25Cap16 in 12th house and the Moon-Pluto-Jupiter line-up in natal 7th house has expansive Jupiter soon to come calling--which will be Sudan's Jupiter Return once tr Jupiter reaches 1Vir11 conjunct Fixed Star Regulus, one of the four Royal Stars of Persia.

Regulus = 'success if revenge is avoided.' Oh dear. Those with a testosterone-laden warrior attitude usually fail to score highly when it comes to choosing peace over revenge, don't they?

Brief Notes on the August 10, 2014 Full Moon in AQ (Washington DC)

In Washington DC this culmination of the July 26, 2014 New Moon in early Leo falls within the 2/8 house polarity denoting corporatism, big business, finances, the National Treasury, possessions, earning ability, values that affect self-esteem, insurance, debt/credit, legacies, inheritances, transformation, death, the occult--you know, the usual potentials of the 2nd and 8th house departments of life.

But a culmination or fulfillment of what?

Of something begun under the influence of the previous New Moon. Now the Sun remains in fiery Leo, sign of the 'natural leader' and of braggarts and lawyers everywhere, so we may continue to expect further political charges of 'acting like a king' and 'this is a republic not a monarchy' and blah blah blah--as if anyone who's a cog in the current government wheel of total control wants anything but the status quo. Lucrative? Oh yes. The ruling class reaps huge benefits from the state of things or they wouldn't behave as they do. Maybe that's one reason the Full Moon chart of August 10th shows status quo Saturn blocking (squaring) actions and plans of the Sun (leader), Moon (the public), and messenger-reporter-trader planet of young people, Mercury (20Leo16) in 9th house of Philosophy, Diplomacy, and Foreign Climes.

And this is descriptive of the political theater of Capitol Hill that we're being subjected to in place of actual governing! Because though the US Congress skedaddles out of the District today for a 5-week vacation the astrological implications continue on...here's a telling quote from someone who shares in his natal horoscope the Sun Leo/Moon AQ personality blend of the August 10th Full Moon:

"Idealism increases in proportion to one's distance from the problem." -John Galsworthy. And never more obviously than in federal, state, and local governments now infiltrated by ideologues with deep convictions which leave common decency out of all their calculations.

Considering the above quote, we find in the Full Moon horoscope the pattern of a Mystic Rectangle (between Sun, Uranus, Mercury, NN, and Moon) which sounds cool and denotes a condition of and a need for 'practical idealism' not the pie-in-sky kind. Does John Boehner's lawsuit against President Obama sound foolishly impractical since the bill won't be agreed to by Democrats and POTUS would hardly take part in such an undermining of his administration and of his signature achievement, would he? Once again, you waste our time and millions of tax dollars, sore-loser Republicans!

So it's about time to close this post with the factors that determine (as near as we can tell) how things will proceed from this Full Moon in Aquarius, sign of the American people's natal Moon if you use a July 4, 1776 horoscope with Sagittarius rising.

Full Moon's Ascendant 21Sco32 (conj US natal 12th cusp--the house of Politics, Secret Deals, Self-Undoing, Karma, Hospitals, Large Institutions--they're rising) is ruled by Mars and sub-ruled by creepy wealth-hoarder Pluto, the manipulator and saboteur. Mars applies to two major aspects:

A sextile to Pluto which signifies an intense energy that's available when reaching for more power. Investment and research are favored yet military action cannot be ruled out as we look toward the rest of Summer 2014.

Second is a conjunction to Saturn (8A21) with both planets in 12th house. This denotes a time of obstacles blocking progress (still) and maybe even some self-created troubles arise--perhaps via short-cuts that seemed a good idea when they were taken but now...not so much. Called for are better organizing, careful planning, and an acceptance of the authority of others--something we know the GOP simply refuses to do.

Yes, the Full Moon over Washington on August 10th will find the city's denizens and perps missing, on a break from the 'work' they failed to do but were paid for. Hmm.

Ah, DC! I again will not miss being there in August for I know what it's like and wish to sit under a shady tree in Georgia instead while watching a toddler pick a bunch of dan-dee-lion flowers...

An Incidental Astro-Consideration: Uranus/South Node Together at Last

As nearly as I can tell, the transit of disruptive rebel Uranus (a zealot and anarchist when in Mars-ruled Aries, says Ebertin) with transit South Node of the Moon, a Saturn-ruled point of separation and unconscious behaviors yet there are potential talents meeting at 12Ari56 on January 20, 2015 during the wee hours after 2:00 am est--something like 2:26:20 am if I had to guess but check it for yourself, plus any other times the two might have been at same degrees/minutes. SN points toward Saturn and his usurper Uranus (Ouranos) and the antithetical relationship they played out in a father v son myth-y sort of way. Or, perhaps archetypally speaking they're always 'at it' somewhere in the Universe with no resolution in sight and none wanted--a 'restriction v freedom' stalemate, a conflict older than the hills and much more fatiguing for us all. Particularly in Israel-Palestine with the Saturn-Uranus duo signifying the two enemies stewing within their continual conflict in an endless cycle of revenge.

As you know, '12 Aries' is traditionally considered a critical degree as is its opposite degree, '12 Libra.' Take this as you may if you use such factors in your horoscopic considerations. Yet the line must be drawn somewhere and we'll be at this all day if we don't take a stand for simplification and brevity in chart studies and writings. However, even moderation must be moderated, as a wise fool once asserted.

Now what can quirky genius Uranus, the one I call America's 'totem planet', be up to while traveling with the Moon's South Node? Uranus, The Awakener (aka, The Witness) has been activated every time we go to war though it's true that Uranian action may spring upon us early, on time, late--or not at all. And when US natal Uranus has been triggered, we're not talking little skirmishes and hidden coups but World Wars and whatnot.

Guess we should face it ahead of time that Uranus-conjunct-SN carries vibes of disruption via war and revolution, sad to say, though its effects depend on where and how other horoscopes/planets are contacted from the 12-13 Ari/Libra degrees. Also, social changes that upset communities and individuals we see already, plus, technological shifts that throw off our usual balance may appear and our methods must be quickly adjusted to keep up especially since unpredictable catalyst Uranus isn't much interested in pausing for slowpokes!

Then as we might expect given our nation's history with atom-splitting and big-a*s explosions that kill large numbers of people at will, US natal Uranus @8Gem55 possibly qualifies within the first degrees of Gem/Sag, the so-called 'nuclear degrees' (so named due to empirical records meticulously kept.) Plus, 8/9Gem is awfully close to Royal Star Aldebaran which we've discussed more than once before--'The Watcher of the East', 'the Bull's Eye'. And of course this means Aldebaran is positioned in the Zodiac opposite Royal Star Antares, also discussed here in a priorly fashion so I'll not bore either of us unnecessarily tonight.

As noted, in a horoscope the potential results of either of these two stars falling upon a very sensitive 'hair-tigger' axis (00--9 degrees Gem/Sag is how I count it) depend on which planets and points are in paran or aspect with those degrees/stars, a fascinating part of Astrology, Star Lore, and Archetypal Mythology so well championed by expert astrologer Bernadette Brady (see her Predictive Astrology and especially Brady's Book of Fixed Stars. One sensitivity trigger was the Mars-Uranus conjunction @5Gem08 on January 16, 1944, an indication of war, weaponry, and explosions.

Still in effect: transit midpoint picture with Pluto at apex--Saturn-Neptune = Pluto: denial of guilt from responsible parties. Well, yes. We hear a lot of denials within the public discourse these days, don't we? And yet his mask slips so that even the downtrodden of humanity now sees Pluto's naked obsession to destroy and reduce to chaos before rebuilding--the Utopian "order out of chaos".

Now who do you suppose is the owner of the 'will' mentioned above--the will that wants to kill large numbers of people simultaneously? A tragic course of action and too drastic to be allowed by decent folk who prefer to live in peace thanks. Whom do we know who acts unconsciously under such destructive influences?

Well, these days horoscopes regularly show his nom de plume, wearing his dark mask...and it's creepy Pluto plodding through harsh Capricorn, sign of structure and status quo--and of gilt-edged stocks and bonds. Seems to me that 'the puppet master' allows his death mask to slip more and more often these days, have you noticed?

Why, Surveillance is the US government's middle name out of the gate! Exs: General Washington's spies during the Revolution and Benjamin Franklin's postal and other surreptitious activities imply a deep American obsession (Pluto) with details, news, gossip, facts, votes, orators, reporters, writers, travel and transport, teaching, and other Mercurial stuffs and doings. Well, that's about all I shall say for now concerning the upcoming in-tandem transit of Uranus-to-South Node, the 'tail of the dragon' as it's been known since ancient times. Wonder how disruptive the slap of the dragon's tail may be this time around since the presence of South Node here hints that whatever 'it' is, it will likely be intense, electrical, and will echo something that occurred in the past being brought forward for our further consideration?
