Uranus-Pluto 1966 with Bucket Handle Saturn in Pisces

Troubles by the Bucket: 1966, 2015, and 2020

by Jude Cowell

During the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson ('LBJ') came the three Great Conjunctions of Uranus and Pluto in mid-Virgo: 1. October 9, 1965 @17Vir09; 2. April 4, 1966 @16Vir28; and 3. June 30, 1966 @16Vir06. Below is the June 30, 1966 horoscope set for Washington DC with many messy study notes penned on for the daring to read if they so wish:

1966 vs 2020: Upheavals vs Upheavals

There are multiple places in this chart where Trump figures into the equation, one of which is karmic Saturn @29Pis35 (10th house) conjunct Scheat, star of misfortune (suicide, murder), which was activated by the Summer Solstice 2015 Eclipse and in part resulted in Trump's 'escalator ride' to deliver his 2015 'Prez Bid' announcement the morning of a Gemini New Moon. Yes, his disturbing announcement occurred under the influence of the 17 South Saros Series which imprints upon his 'prez bid' and upon what turned out to be his 'presidency' involving the 17 South themes of 'sudden success/good news concerning groups or relationships'. We may wish to note that 17 South can have positive or negative effects and is the Prenatal Eclipse series ('PE') of notables such as Adolf Hitler, Ayn Rand, Rachel Carson, Princess Diana (her birth and tragic death!), Newt Gingrich, and Barack Obama.

Eclipses: Uranian Wild Cards and Cosmic Blinks from Above

However! 17 South is not the PE of this 1966 Uranus-Pluto Conjunction, 4 North is! Because prior to the June 30th conjunction, a 4 North Eclipse manifested on May 20, 1966 @28Tau55 (spotlighted in red, 11th house near the NN-Algol conjunction) among the stars of the Pleiades constellation. And considering America's current conditions of upheaval, protests, revolt, violence, riots that bring changes in government, and civil rights demonstrations, it seems significant to me that the Uranus-Pluto Conjunctions of the mid-1960s are now triggered or activated via opposition from the transiting midpoint of Uranus-and-Pluto in mid-Pisces (@16Pis51 as I type).

Other cosmic factors are involved, of course, such as the harsh conjunction of karmic Saturn and Pluto on January 12, 2020 which imprinted the duo's compressed, toilsome energies upon the year 2020. As a planetary pair, Saturn-Pluto can also represent 'deeply researching scientists, violent people, reactionaries, and mass murderers' (Ebertin) - all of which sounds to me like events and people of 2020 so far including the pandemic, rioting in the streets, violent acts and the threat of them, political conflicts, and the cruelty of a leadership that cares nothing for its people.

Yet another chart factor stands out and cosmically links events and conditions of 1966 with 2020: currently we're again influenced by a 4 North Solar Eclipse which recently perfected at Summer Solstice 2020 @00Can21, a Cardinal World Point of Manifestation. And as you know, History tends to rhyme so it's no wonder that we are dealing once again with 4 North themes of 'restraint, restriction, separation, illusions' and more. Note that 4 North solar eclipses occurred in the years 1912, 1930, 1948, (1966), 1984, and 2002 and relate to restrictive or separative events and/or illusions operable during those years. See the center of the horoscope for a few events of 1966. You may also wish to note the Sabian Symbol of the rising Jupiter ('12 Cancer' = "A Chinese Woman Nursing a Baby With a Message") and the fact that opposing expansive Jupiter is health asteroid Aesculapia. Plus, 2020's Capricorn stellium of planets cluster around 1966's Saturn-Neptune midpoint @24Cap37 which is the "illness axis" (Ebertin) - and the 8th cusp of this chart with US natal Pluto upon it. Saturn-Neptune = Pluto: a serious illness (Ebertin).

Donald Trump June 14, 1946 10:54 am edt Queens (or Jamaica) New York; Sun Gemini-Moon Sagittarius = "The Pied Piper" (Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles and Suzi Harvey).

Other cosmic links are more obvious than the eclipse connection: Trump's natal Mercury (8Can51--the mouthpiece) rises in this Uranus-Pluto 1966 chart along with the Sun (8Can09) and fixed star Alhena (to have a mission), plus, 1966's North Node of future direction (24Tau43 in 11th house) points toward the nasty star of fury and destruction, Algol, which twinkles upon Trump's natal Midheaven ('MC': his Goal). Algol always implicates the malevolent stare of vicious Medusa. (With Trump I tend to think of this as the raptor's stare! Tragically, We the People are in the raptor's direct line of sight with his aggressive, vengeful Mars opposing US natal Moon.)

Now there are many more chart factors worth noting (leave your on-topic comments if you wish!) but let's close with only a bigly one:

Now you know that grim reaper Saturn is aka, the old man or senex, right? Dr. Liz Greene calls him 'the old devil' and I would never disagree with that assessment. Saturn represents authority and authority figures, accountability, responsibility, maturity, seniority, old age, the past, concentration, hard work, the taskmaster, lesson-bringer, solidity, consolidation, soberness, modesty, shyness, flaws, conservation, preservation, studiousness, reserve, economy, loss, learning from experience, borders, walls, bones, skeletons, teeth, cells, systems and structures, soil, tectonic plates, the Earth, inertia - the list goes on, as you know. In the chart above, earthy Saturn is placed in watery Pisces ('a struggle with opponents') and acts as the handle of a Bucket pattern. This handle is similar to the lead planet of a Locomotive shape (ruthlessly determined toward success; a high-powered executive) of planets. Plus, Bucket handle Saturn here is at a critical-crisis 29th degree, straining toward the Aries Point.

Now as you know, a Bucket is a Bowl with a handle, hemispheric emphasis is important, and the handle planet acts as "an important direction of interest" but doesn't change the fact that a Bowl denotes a dedicated cause or mission. With a handle planet, it's more a question of "adapting allegiances to lines along which efforts count for the most" (Jones). This Saturn represents either the "instructor or inspirer of others" or the zealous "agitator and malcontent". So - what's in it for him? Well, I'll let you decide who might be fulfilling the role of 1966 Saturn in 2020, if anyone, and with the violent energies of Uranus-Pluto stirred up and expressing online and in the streets.

Yes once again, as in 1966 during the Vietnam War, deferral-lovin' Trump is "a soldier derelict in his duty" as he mishandles the Covid-19 catastrophe, takes no responsibility, and hundreds of thousands of Americans suffer and die. And instead of calming riots in the streets of America, he promotes them! To me it seems as if a lot of "misjudging strength or the situation" is going on in Washington DC (another 4 North influence) under figurehead Trump.

Meanwhile, we should probably add that the Moon-Venus opposition across the 6/12 victim-savior axis forms the rim of the Bowl (with Moon conjunct war-like Antares!) which handle Saturn, the authority figure, has hold of. Besides the suggestion of maladjusted relationships within this opposition, Moon-Venus in Politics and Business suggests potentials for "manufacturing and agricultural productivity and how it affects the overall wealth and well-being of the people" and "how a country preserves the heritage, customs, lifestyle, and culture of native people" and "esteem for minority groups" (Munkasey). Under the Trump regime, I'd have to say, lack of esteem for minorities, anti-preservation attitudes for cultural sites and customs, and little if any sense of well-being for everyone.

Because after all, authoritative Saturn rules government, law, business, and tradition, but with Trump's natal Saturn in the watery, tribal, nationalistic, emotional sign of Cancer, his tendencies toward discontent, fantasy when realism is called for, and egotistical hypersensitivity constantly interfere with the possibility that he is able to exhibit any real leadership so that his complete lack of respect for rules, laws, and traditions makes him merely a corrupt scofflaw president if he's any kind of president at all.

Troubles by the bucket? Yeah, we've got 'em.

DC Horoscope: Saturn-Pluto Conjunction January 2020

Here is the horoscope set for Washington DC of the Great Conjunction of restrictive Saturn and powerful Pluto @22Cap46 on January 12, 2020; Moon in Leo and Venus in Aquarius are both unaspected and the Hour belongs to a Capricorn Jupiter strong in its natural 9th house of Philosophy and Foreign Travel:

Saturn conjuncts Pluto in the publicly visible 10th house of Public Status and Career with authoritative Saturn ruling 10th house (MC 18Cap06) and Pluto's Scorpio on the Descendant of Partnerships. The Aries-Libra axis is intercepted suggesting something hidden or karmic in the realms of the 6/12 polarity in relation to alliances, diplomacy, war, police/military forces, and/or health and civil service issues. Chart-ruler Venus makes no applying (or waning) aspects at all so her house and sign positions are emphasized and you see by her degree (28AQ) that US natal Moon in Aquarius has been conjoined recently by Venus which suggests a harmonious period when intuition leads and the cold, hard facts are ignored or bypassed. But with the January meeting of Saturn and Pluto, 2020 will be a year when cold hard facts cannot be ignored or denied and may be forced upon society.

'Facing hard facts' relates to the crisis-ridden 'YOD' (not exactly one since the MC is part of it) that points toward an unaspected Moon @17Leo13 in the 5th house of Risk-Taking, Creative Pursuits, Romance, and Children. Strain (inconjunct) is upon the people (Moon) and issues from the Neptune-MC sextile which indicates those in authority who influence people and public policy in subtle ways in order to gain their acquiescence and avoid opposition (like they've practiced against us for years with varying levels of success). The Saturn-Pluto conjunction may be the catalyst that further solidifies global corporatists' totalitarian power with Pluto in Capricorn as the dictator, according to Reinhold Ebertin, and of course, Saturn in its own sign of Capricorn is extremely strong but times financial difficulties--though not necessarily for the win-win types). And we have America's first-ever Pluto Return coming up in 2022 to cement the Saturn-Pluto deal of 2020.

As for the Moon as Bucket handle this denotes some level of inspiration and zeal coming from the realms of Leo and identifies those who adapt allegiances where they can count for the most (Jones). A Bucket pattern suggests a cause or a mission to fulfill but is the Moon-as-handle advocating the cause or playing a different or an opportunistic tune? Saturn-Pluto likes to use secret police and military agencies to dominate the public and creates turmoil in traditional institutions especially if they're resistant to change. The duo's affairs are not open to public scrutiny as governmental checks and balances are upset (they already are) and secret preparations are being made for more restriction in the future which is underscored by the chart's Aries-Libra interception with its hidden, secret, or karmic (reaping what was sown) quality.

Upper right is a list of Jupiter's conjunctions with Saturn and Pluto, all in 2020; this chart's Saturn-Pluto conjunction is the first of them and denotes bleakness, brutality, and hard hard work. Also in the 9th house is penned the Pre-Natal Eclipse of this conjunction which occurred on December 26, 2019 @4Cap06 in the 3 South Saros Series (see lower left). 3 South themes are: traumatic transformation via news received or a short journey taken; sudden endings of relationships, possibly with a young person; this series is deeply emotional with Pluto involved (paraphrasing Brady's Predictive Astrology).

Perhaps you recognize this eclipse from the last time it manifested on December 14, 2001 when 'mastermind' Osama bin Laden was (allegedly) tracked to the Tora Bora Caves by the US military, then pouf! he mysteriously disappeared as if he'd never been.

3 South is the Pre-natal Eclipse series of the Discovery of Pluto (Feb 18, 1930) and of the Republic of China. This chart's Earth-Fire (scorched earth!) Sun Cap-Moon Leo blend is shared natally by China's Mao Tse-tung and America's Dolly Parton so let's close with Mao's famous quote:

"Wherever we go, we must we must unite with the people, take root, and blossom among them."

No thanks.

Taurus New Moon this week: April 20 - 26, 2009

The Tranquil Dark is upon us this week as surface lights and deeper shadows play hide'n'peek with our conscious/unconscious minds. Follow the link to Julie Demboski's excellent column detailing the week's planetary energies as the Dark of the Moon begins April 21 PDT and leads us to a New Moon of fresh starts.

In Washington, DC the New Moon 5Tau04 of April 24 (11:22 pm edt; Hour of the Moon) falls in the domestically-inclined, security-minded 4th house yet it conjuncts the chart's 5th cusp 5Tau29, the house of Risk-Taking, Gambling, and Creative Endeavors. This means that new beginnings will affect the 4th and 5th houses in Washington with 4th cusp/IC 7Ari28 ruled by Mars and the Taurean 5th cusp ruled by Venus.

And there's the lovey pair, Venus 00Ari13 = AP (World Point of prominence) conj Mars 1Ari59, hugging the IC they so recently crossed during the Dark of the Moon. Orchestrating asteroid Terpsichore is conj IC, the Foundation/Basis of the chart, aka the HOW? Point.

The WHY? Point = Midheaven (MC) 7Lib28, and WHAT? is the Ascending degree: 17Sag59, Pluto 3Cap12 Rx in 1st house. Pluto is also focal or apex planet of a Cardinal T-square which forms a midpoint picture - a feisty little number for getting things done...

Mars/MC = Pluto: power; promotion; the big picture; extraordinary zeal; great vigor; a desire to bring immense tasks to successful conclusions; publicity.

In Dynamics of Aspect Analysis, Bil Tierney gives an apex Pluto in a Cardinal T-square as an intense loner, a high-powered and ruthless executive who demands penetrating insight into all phases of operation - he has no intention of sharing control with anyone, thanks; and because of the outgoing Cardinal energy, there may be explosive displays and broken relationships with this apex Pluto.

The Partnership angle, the Descendant or 7th cusp conjuncts the Venus Occultation degree of June 2004, the G-8 Summit on Sea Island, GA. So this New Moon relates to unusual partnerships that were formed then which created unsuspected associations between those whose identities would be a big surprise were we privy to such world-dominating information...Desc 17Gem59 ('18Gem' - think China.)

Chart-ruler Jupiter makes only two applying aspects in the New Moon chart...

Jupiter conj Chiron (2A28), and Jupiter readying for his Great Conjunction with Neptune (3A03 = first conj on May 27.) Both Chiron and Neptune are in 2nd house of Earning Ability, Values, and Self-Worth along with expansive Jupiter. Did I hear you say, excess liquidity? Or perhaps, inflation? Grand plans do abound!

So where is restricting put-on-the-brakes Saturn? 15Vir19 Rx in 9th house of Philosophy, Higher Education, Religion, and Foreign Travel and acting as the bucket pattern's handle.

The 'bucket' stretches from the 1st house Pluto 3Cap12 Rx to Mercury 25Tau15 in 6th house of Work, Service, and Health - and someone (Mr. Saturn - an older person: a manager or professor, and possibly a Democrat) - someone needs control and is being driven by unrelenting demands.

Yes, Saturn is carrying the whole shebang and makes no aspects in the New Moon chart except for a *quindecile (165 degr = obsession-compulsion) to luxury-loving Venus...

Venus QD Saturn: ambitions and goals may be used as substitutes for relationships; fear of material loss; ambitious and materially successful but lacks trust in others.

Now there could reside Saturn's 'unrelenting demands' in this financial climate, and we know the big bankers and Wall Street thieves are having a doozy of a time trusting one another long enough to transact business.

And of course the T-square mentioned above means that Pluto squares Venus which gives a compulsive desire for complete control in relationships, a wayward and wasteful handling of money to the point of destruction, and a conscious or unconscious tendency to undermine partnerships and associations.

Pluto squaring Mars isn't much easier energy to handle: violent tempers flare and destruction of all sorts may ensue. Projects are often aborted under this influence, yet it contains tremendous energy for successful accomplishments if the zealous side can be channeled into positive enterprises on behalf of the collective rather than against it.

Since neither Sun nor Moon apply to another planet (or point) in April 24's New Moon chart, the sign and degree of the lunation increases in importance which emphasizes the 4th and 5th house areas of life (as mentioned above), and highlights the Sabian Symbol for '6Tau'...

"A Bridge Being Built Across a Gorge"...CHANNELSHIP...

positive expression: the directness and the practical instinct by which personality achieves ultimate benefit of its powers;

neg/unconscious/shadow side: a love of short cuts and every possible escape from the obligations of daily living. (The Sabian Symbols in Astrology, Dr. Marc Edmund Jones.)

Dane Rudhyar gives the Keynote for '6Tau' as: 'The conquest of separativeness through group cooperation.'

And while we're at it, let's look at the New Moon's opposite degree, aka the Illumination Point which may give some interesting unconscious information concerning the New Moon in Taurus - and relates rather well to Julie's two levels of awareness for the week's planetary energies (for brevity's sake I shall use only the Jones version with my italics)...

'6Scorpio': 'A Gold Rush'....AMBITION...

pos: instinctive self-dedication to the unseen potentials of everyday existence;

neg/unconscious/shadow side (this one is hidden deep in our psyches - the unconscious of the unconscious): a lack of practical discrimination and an irresistible desire for easy money.

Well, Taurus is one of the money signs and likes good value for its money - though it's seemingly impossible to assess value on the current mystery-meat financial 'instrument' plate. Or so the 'experts' tell us.

The Sun Tau-Moon Tau blend is double-Earth, therefore it is practical, slow and steady, and seeks certainties which are frustratingly in short supply these days.

It's a calm, kind combination unless and until you see steam escaping from Ferdinand the Bull's nose, so the New Moon may relate to a bull market - we'll have to see how the next two weeks play out financially until the culmination of the next Full Moon on May 9 at 12:01:21 am edt in DC.

Keep your red cape tucked away for there may be some foot-stamping and ground-pawing going on prior to May 9's Full Moon 18Sco41/Sun 18Tau41 opposing one another across the 4/10 axis in DC. The Moon will have 'spilled out of the bucket' by then and Mercury will be retrograde at 1Gem35.

More on this particular Full Moon later except for one thing: its Sun Tau-Moon Sco blend is shared natally with Pres. Warren G. Harding who helpfully intoned:

"Our country needs not heroics but healing, not nostrums but normalcy; not revolution but restoration."

Healing, normalcy, and restoration for America? Where do I sign?

Now back to this week's New Moon where we find the Tau-Tau blend's Images for Integration, one of which may well relate on some level to bucket-handle lesson-bringer Saturn, who shall function properly by closing this post...

'A successful baker is surrounded by delighted children eating fresh bread rolls...A loving teacher resolves an angry dispute.'
