As the debt ceiling-budget stand-off continues in Washington DC with Republicans drooling over their big chance to roll back FDR's New Deal programs and slash the tires on LBJ's Great Society jalopy, some words from Franklin Roosevelt's Inaugural speech of Jan 20, 1937 seem appropriate for the short-sighted on Capitol Hill.

Actually, I believe theses Utopians are very long-sighted since the plan to change the course of America (from what we-the-people have always been led to believe it is) is coming to austere fruition before our eyes (austere for us, dandy fine for them, they think.)

So being more on the side of FDR-style politics in times of financial troubles, and wishing the best for the American people if not for the radical, success-at-any-cost politicians now infesting Capitol Hill, I'm republishing a brief excerpt from FDR which for me sums up much of the question of 'what sort of country do we wish America to be?'

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

Rep. Dennis Kucinich just said on the House floor, "Stop playing political games with Social Security." For whatever good it does, thanks, Mr. Kucinich. In spite of what Republicans say over and over, Social Security is hardly an "unfunded entitlement program" since by law workers pay into it (some of us pay 100% of the tax because we are self-employed) - the fund has been stolen blind by Congress, and we're left with an I.O.U. which now the GOP doesn't want to pay back. They don't want to pay on the credit card account Bush-Cheney ran up for 8 years either and they knew what they were doing when they passed the indebted baton on to President Obama, a Democrat.

Now here are two more FDR quotes which vibrate all through the current financial impasse in Washington DC along side the quote mentioned above:

“Don’t forget what I discovered that over ninety percent of all national deficits from 1921 to 1939 were caused by payments for past, present, and future wars.”

“Not only our future economic soundness but the very soundness of our democratic institutions depend on the determination of our government to give employment to idle men.”

Save money, oil, and gas: stop our foreign wars! Or have war profiteers begin picking up the tab which is really theirs anyway.

Meanwhile, though jobs are elusive in our nation and this greatly reduces receipts for the US Treasury Department with which to pay our bills, Capitol Hillers are embroiled over the incandescent light bulb ban issuing from the bill signed by George Bush to wipe out the cheaper bulbs in favor of the more expensive variety which, here in the room where I type, casts a gentle glow from a lamp in similar fashion to mood lighting and which is hardly sufficient for seeing what you need to see.

Wednesday July 13, 2011 White House 4:00 pm edt: Rs and Ds Meet Again

As for this afternoon's debt meeting at the White House @ 4:00 pm edt, 21Sco26 rises with the austere Moon/Saturn midpoint in tow. Or the Republicans backing out of the no-tax-hike corner they put themsleves into by listening to the likes of Grover Norquist and Karl Rove? We'll see if any changes occur today within this ideological stand-off which threatens to make social-financial conditions much much worse for the American people who now struggle to get by.

Can a total collapse of America by these chaos-creating Utopians be avoided?

Well, you know Mr. Kucinich is correct, don't you? And he doesn't mind calling a situation 'Orwellian' that really is Orwellian.

Wonder what happened to Mr. Kucinich's plan in 2008 to investigate those mysteriously executed and very lucrative "put options" which suggested insider trading involved in the attacks of 9/11?

House votes No to US military action in Libya 6.24.11

Have congress members found their backbones or are they worried about their fund-raising for the next election? Well, on C-SPAN I watched much of this morning's 'debate' on the House floor over action in Libya so this news nugget is of little surprise.

I hope the US drops this ill-timed, unaffordable, and immoral mission and that you too caught Dennis Kucinich's impassioned speeches this morning - his remarks are definitely worth finding if you can, and I shall search for a video of him for posting here asap:

The House has voted down a measure giving President Obama the authority to continue the U.S. military action against Libya. More at NPR.

Rachel Maddow on Reagan's 'Riganomics' (video)

Here in northeast Georgia we're digging out of about one inch of one the fluffiest snowfalls I've seen in years (scintillatingly beautiful!) and this video of Rachel Maddow reporting on the trickle down-supply side Riganomics of Ronald Reagan and its ultimate effects may fill the bill for those who still wonder what happened to America's middle class.

You know, I've always thought it was telling how in his presidential nomination campaign against Reagan, Bush Sr called trickle down theory "voo doo economics" though as Reagan's VP, Bush joined in all the self-enriching fun which their policies provided with no visible qualms at all...our national debt tripled under Reagan.

(Well, the Sabian Symbol for our nation's natal Jupiter degree of '6 Cancer' is "Game Birds Feathering Their Nests"!)

And Jupiterian comedian Rich Little at the time quipped that Reagan's economic theory with his increase in military spending, reduction of taxes on the rich, and pie-in-the-sky promise to balance the budget simultaneously would require keeping "two sets of books."

With the excessive growth of a shadow banking system and the results from "Riganomics" not being what was glowingly promised - then or now - we've seen that two sets of books may not be enough for such major slights of hand and our income inequality gap has only widened dramatically. Critics of Reaganomics were and are correct.

So hopefully you saw common-sense-promoter Rep. Dennis Kucinich on C-SPAN's Washington Journal this morning in their 8:30 to 9:00 am time slot taking calls about our economy, etc. The video isn't on the website yet (last I checked) but here's a link to Washington Journal in case you want to listen to Rep. Kucinich's remarks when the program becomes available for viewing. Or perhaps you'll catch a rerun on your TV.

Ron Paul video: support of Kucinich's resolution 248

Here's a video of Rep. Ron Paul speaking in support of Rep. Dennis Kucinich's House concurrent resolution 248 to withdraw US boots from Afghanistan by Dec 31, 2010 but as you know, the vote tallied 65 - 356 on behalf of keeping our resources and fortunes tied down in Afghanistan (and protecting gas pipelines?) for the duration.

Well, if you're like me, you think the invasion, given cover by the attacks of 9/11, was meant to be a permanent occupation all along - and being there 8 1/2 years seems to support this over arching plan. Of course, this makes yesterday's vote predictable since no politician wants to admit being in the wrong - or be accused of making Congress look bad (as if it isn't too late!)

Yet I do appreciate that Mr. Kucinich and his resolution's nine co-sponsors (and the few who swallowed their pride long enough to vote for withdrawal) made the effort that shows the rest of the Capitol Hill warmongers look like what they are...shills on behalf of the war profiteers and perpetual-war ideologues who will wage war here in the 'homeland' if they deem it to their advantage.

Kucinich on Dems' bailout betrayal

Kucinich on the Democrats' bailout betrayal tells more truth than Biden or Obama want you know about this financial charade we're being scammed by.

Kucinich notes that Barack Obama voted for the bill in case the markets fell sharply otherwise and he'd lose the election. That's what the kerfluffle was about, all that hemming and hawing and postponing going home to face irate constituents.

Scaredy cats and fatcats.

Without Kucinich, Paul, Kaptur, and Sanders, and perhaps a few others, we'd never hear a true word spoken on Capitol Hill from that Masonic Temple we call the Capitol Building.

And McCain is just as bad except that he can't talk economic language (doublespeak) as well in front of a camera as Obama.

Some choice we get with class warfaring Pluto-Chiron plutocrats who are laughing all the way to the bank. 1999 was the year of the Financial Services Modernization Act that destroyed the protections of 1933's Glass-Steagall Act...and Dec 30, 1999 was the Great Conjunction of Pluto and Chiron.

How happy they must've been! FDR's New Deal finally placed on the road to ruin in one fell swoop...no money for pesky old entitlements now!

So when Capitol Hill Theater (Bailout from Hades, Acts I and II) was in full swing I wrote: just see what the outcome is no matter what they say on the floor or in the press (or words to that effect.) And lo and behold they had their way and ignored ours even though we contacted our "reps" 100 to 1 Against the 'bailout bill' for Wall Street.

You know this manufactured 'credit crunch' means that all the mega-liquidity the Fed and Treasury have poured into the system is being hoarded by banks - and by banks that are more like oil companies than most people realize.

So I can't wait to hear during tonight's townhall debate which is hemming and which one is hawing the loudest. Perhaps they'll take turns.

As you know, the Bailout Bill won't fix anything for the middle class but it will continue to undermine all but the topcats.

About the only thing the Robber Baron class is missing in 2008 from their Industrial Revolution Days of yore is their fancy tophats where they can be more easily recognized.

Wonder if it's true that John McCain is an Ambien user? Because sleepwalking to the ringing phone at 3:00 am in the White House he's sure to be befuzzled, if so. Yet oft have I wondered the same about Bush these last crazy years. And mixing the drug with that other drug, alcohol, is a very irresponsible way to run a country.

DOUBLE FLYBY ALERT: Space shuttle Discovery is scheduled to undock from the International Space Station on Wednesday morning, June 11th, at 7:42 am EDT. This means many sky watchers will be able to see the two spaceships flying in tandem, separate but closely-spaced points of light, gliding among the stars on Wednesday night.

Double flybys will continue on Thursday the 12th and to a lesser extent on Friday the 13th, with Discovery returning to Earth on Saturday. Southeastern parts of the United States (e.g., Miami and Atlanta) are favored with some particularly good apparitions.

Interesting! but I may know the identity of the 'MarsWorm' that's been spied...you may have noticed him lurking about the White House lo these many years dropping bombs, destroying the peace, and breaking every treaty he meets with devil-may-care abandon; and, it seems, worshiping Mars, the god of war.

And he speaks as if he longs for Mars' red shores.
