If one uses the Scorpio Rising chart for America (2:21 pm - or 2:22 pm - LMT July 4, 1776, Philadelphia, PA) as a natal chart or as a special interest chart - in this case, for Scorpionic stuff such as surveillance, spying agencies, Big Business, the occult, becoming an initiate or an adept, etc - one discovers a mysteriously named 'hidden square' (256 degrees) which is not necessarily visible or prominent in other versions of our US natal chart.
You'll find that the interpretation for what may be termed a 'hidden square' is quoted for you in the post from Rob Pelletier's excellent book Planets in Aspect, a must for any astrologer's or novice's library. (Well, we're all mere novices of the Great Mathematician, are we not?)
Being in the square (90 degr) family of aspects (angular relationships between planets and/or points) the 'hidden square' also describes the typical internal conflicts of the square aspect, internal blockages on the mental or psychological plane. Squares form due to essential quests.
Of course, others may block us, obstacles may appear along the path, but solutions may be found within. For more than likely, an unconscious 'blind spot' will trip us up more quickly than anything that anyone can do to block us. And we must first deceive ourselves before others may do so.
So if you would, please click to read Mr. Pelletier's analysis of this particular planetary square, and if you determine that it doesn't describe we-the-people more closely than I wish it did, please leave a comment here to let me know about it. Some of its traits or facets seem eerily prevalent in the New Millennium.
My feeling is that we Americans carry our Revolutionary past around on our backs like a snail shell! We even try to get other countries to follow our example and adopt our form of government (thereby missing several points that a common sense approach would avoid entirely particularly since we-the-people are confused about which form we actually have anymore. We had a Republic but haven't kept it, and we're barely qualified to call ourselves a democracy. In fact, other people laugh at us when we do. This is bad.)
Yes, change in America (and in the world) is necessary, all right. But ruling upper-crusters seem to have a very different idea from what the people think is just and good for their own nation and lives. The plutocrats are decidedly obsessive about their plans, too. Obsession is another face of Pluto, of course, the secret hand sniveling and lurking behind the scenes of Power.
Be advised: your silence on the 'hidden square' matter shall be construed as willing acquiescence!

July 4, 2010: Presidential scholars rank Bush 5th worst in US history
Happy Independence Day, America! Here's the Sibly version of our birth chart:
Yes, it's year #234 and barely counting, considering what politicians and bankers have done with the place - their private cash cow apparently.
Well, just in time for 2010's July 4th festivities, some bad news not wholly unexpected has arrived concerning the recent 8-year era of US expansionist and war speculator, George Bush: he's been ranked by presidential scholars as the 5th worst president in US history, with President Obama ranked 15th from the top of this year's list.
Yes, war hawk Bush is ranked in the bottom five as is Franklin Pierce with whom Dubya shares family lineage. And Poppy Bush doesn't fair very well either which gives me some small hope that hoards of discerning Americans will nix any future presidential hopes of candidates from this particular gene pool.
That's about as gently as I can put it so early in the day while listening to the second reading of the morning on NPR of the Declaration of Independence. The horoscope above marks the day with expanding Jupiter as chart-ruler during a Venus Hour, both planets relating on one level to money and its pursuit.
Now to be fair, President Pierce did have the unfortunate distinction of losing his 11-year-old son in a horrible train accident just two months before inauguration which had to be a nightmarish-beyond-belief way to begin a term in the White House.
That Pierce won with the Democrats' slogan, "We Polked you in 1844; we shall Pierce you in 1852!" is a marvel or a miracle, I'm not certain which (that said with a 2010 perspective, however.)
And perhaps the person writing on Wikipedia concerning the presidency of Franklin Pierce had Dubya in the back of his/her mind when he/she typed:
"having publicly committed himself to an ill-considered position, he maintained it steadfastly, but at tremendous cost to his reputation."
With Bush, it seems that nature and nurture supported one another during his disastrous presidency with "At least we know where he stands" the popular sentiment with the end of the sentence being, "even though he's wrong."
Well, if history turns out to be 'kind' to George W. Bush as John Ashcroft once panderingly intoned, its pages will have to be very creatively rewritten down to the last period if it hopes to disguise the misery, loss, and teeth-grinding inspired across the globe by the stubborn-willed presidency of you-know-who (with the enabling of his elite backers, his "base" as he called them.)
May this be the final time I publish a photo of this man who had to cheat to 'win' the presidency of the United States of America, with the end of the sentence being, "cheating isn't winning, it's stealing."

Biden with Stewart, Spica @ Rosslyn Chapel, US natal Mercury Rx
As you know, VP Joe Biden was interesting on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The Huff Po article details some of the VP's remarks and provides videos of his performance with Jon.
One thing I do whole-heartedly agree with the VP about concerning the depressing recession that crashed under Bush-Cheney and had its baton passed to Barack Obama on Jan 20, 2009, is that it is "fascinating" that people who got us into the financial stew are the ones bossing and throwing their weight around over what should be done.
It's fascinating, yes, but not as much for the reasons VP Biden implies, or suggests that I believe.
If time doesn't fleet totally away I hope eventually to study more closely the chart for the beginning of the US natal *Mercury/Pluto cycle which has the persuasive pair opposing one another in the US birth chart, with Mercury retrograde @ '25Cancer'...quoting Marc Edmund Jones:
"A Dark Shadow or Mantle Thrown Suddenly Over the Right Shoulder"...DESTINY.
positive expression: some dramatic manifestation of genius vital to the general welfare of man;

Not all his degree interpretations have word pictures but in The 360 Degrees of the Zodiac, Carelli gives '25Can' as "A Wild Horse" and says it relates to a "spirited being, full of noble purposes and setting his sights high, cherishing freedom above all earthly things..." He goes on to say that other stars may help him "make his mark in history" but under less favorable influence "his daring may become a reckless love of adventure, his zest for work wild and fickle fanaticism, his lofty aspirations selfish ambitions.
Travel will play a role in his life," (perhaps a pioneer), and "the secret of his success is his unshakable self-confidence supported by a fiery will."
Okay, there's the word will again - for a man or our nation. Reminds me of cults that use the 'what thou wilt' slogan to justify doing whatever they think to do - Crowley's crowd, is it? It's all quite Sun/Mars/Pluto - 'forcefully taking power' etc. And US n Sun is in Cancer, a most self-protective sign, always scuttling sideways like a crab to avoid what we don't want to confront. Now you may have heard that America has been accused lately of 'losing confidence' and one could suppose that a Secondary Mars turning Rx is one of the descriptors of such a change (on an inner level where self-confidence must exist), if indeed it has occurred. To me, the Fort Hood shootings seem designed for undermining our soldiers' and the public's sense of being safe on US soil inside a military facility...a loss of confidence in one's safety.
What I don't know for certain is whether the heinous crime was engineered under cover and is actually a false flag op to help make police state implementation seem more acceptable to the general populace - on US soil. It's the old political ploy 'trading security for freedoms' maze we're bedeviled with once again because politicians know we will follow them like sheep when under threat. And threats don't have to come from where we're told they come from, just manipulated against us.

Do you think so few of us demanding accountability from our fraudsters, heisters, and crime syndicate types indicates something of a loss of confidence for the American people?

Monica had left a comment under my post on Neptune's change of direction where she envisioned 'mass sorrow' due to Neptune's Station being so near the US natal Moon, and sadly, she was on-the-mark with the Fort Hood shootings.
Excellent insights from Monica yet I suspect she agrees with me that sometimes you just don't want to be right.
Yes, we-the-people are having Neptune to US Moon (the people), Saturn to US Neptune (ideals, hopes, dreams) - and Pluto in an ongoing opposition to US natal Venus in preparation for opposing US natal Jupiter, Sun, and eventually, Mercury Rx which stimulates the US natal Mercury/Pluto opposition.
No time to rant on secret hand Pluto's actions now, but if you'll read my previous post from a few minutes ago, you'll find a link to an article on George Soros, Russia, and Freemasonry which excerpts a book on the subject of Freemasonry's history in Russia and includes enlightenment on Freemasonic America's culpabilities.
You may freely relate the information to the financial 'meltdown' of 2008 which is also described by Neptune to US Moon and the frauds (Neptune) now being perpetrated against the American people (Moon.)
One thing that must be added though is a quote from Jeff Green's book Pluto (Vol I; 1996) concerning America's natal Pluto in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, sign of government, business, and law:

My theory is that since Freemasonry has used Sacred Geometry (Astrology) since day one, they understand these principles very well and have always used the tool of Astrology to time their events of chaos, revolution, coups, and massacres, and for instructive insights on how to gain what they want - world government - by using the ancient art as their satanic guide rather than as the Great Mathematician intended - As above, So Below for the good of mankind, not for its subjugation by politically inspired psychopaths.

The combo of Mars/Pluto is full of extreme force, persuasion, and excessive effort, and may have elements of brutality and ruthlessness to it.

The Nov 15 chart for Mars' first moment of retrogradation (3:24:28 am est when set for Capitol Hill) has Mars 12Can27 at MC 12Can06 and chart-ruler Venus 7Lib01 just risen (ASC 10Lib37) squaring Mars Rx, both planets angular.
Venus rules 8th house of shared resources, insurance, debt, credit, transformation, the occult, with 7Tau44 on 8th cusp. This places Dick Cheney's natal Jupiter/Saturn conj on the 8th cusp. The Venus/Mars square is waxing (5A26) with Venus in 12th house yet ruler of the 1st.
Mars' other applying aspect is a trine to Uranus, planet of technology, progress, and revolution (2A22.)
Moon (fluctuations; changes; publicity; the public) rules 10th house of Career and Public Status, but is posited in 4th house of Domestic Scene and Endings.
