My favorite part is Harry Truman in 1948 calling out the Republican Party as the party of "special interests" and--that's what they'll always be!
Given what's transpiring in Washington this year ad nauseum under the tattered guise of "governing" and considering the financial consequences of their political games and over-arching agenda to 'make Obama a one-term president" (no matter who gets hurt in the process), the GOP now demonstrates just how correct Give 'Em Hell Harry was when it came to understanding the essential nature of the Republican Party.
So when Mundane Astrology tells us that the GOP is signified by rich man Jupiter, with the Democratic Party as sober Saturn (with Dems being the older of the two parties), we might remember Mr. Truman telling us like it is about the party of the Jupiter mantra which insists on dialing things in and suddenly becoming fiscally 'responsible'--but only when there's a Democrat in the White House.
Transparency in Washington!
Oh yeah, and Thom tosses in cut-taxes-on-rich, raise-taxes-on-working class cuss and a half Ronald Reagan who signed the deregulating Garn-St. Germain Act on October 15, 1982 and pronounced with Jupiterian glee that, "All in all, I think we hit the jackpot!"

Ron Paul 1988: drug trafficking by the CIA, Bush Sr, & the Ds (video)
In 1988, Rep. Ron Paul was interviewed and mentioned the CIA, Bush Sr (CIA Director once upon a time), Ronald Reagan, and the Democratic Party and their involvement in drug trafficking to finance illegal CIA operations which Congress wouldn't fund (or didn't want its fingerprints on as a body.)
Then in August 1988, George H. W. Bush gave his thousand points of light" acceptance speech in New Orleans (text or audio), if you wish to remember the words of a drug-trafficking 'president' who later affirmed that his "mission" was to establish a New World Order, the dire effects of which become clearer every day.

Bush-Reagan-Obama and Solar Eclipses 1991/2009
With his usual insight, journalist Robert Parry of Consortium News has written what for me is an expose of the links between the Iran-Contra scandal of Ronald Reagan (1981) and the Gulf War of George H. W. Bush (1991) - Poppy's "100 hours of carnage."
Mr. Parry ignored his employer's instructions (Newsweek) at the time and set up an interview with a key witness, Israeli operative Ari Ben-Menashe, who sat in jail because his government thought it too politically sensitive to aid him. Parry was attempting to "tie down the loose ends of the Iran-Contra scandal" and you may wish to read results of Parry's Ben-Menashe interview and his excellent analysis by clicking above.
If the American people had then learned of how the Israeli government meddled to affect the outcome of a US presidential election, it would've been damning for Israel. Yet finding out now how they and the US government acted in secret (October Surprise: denying President Carter the fruits of his efforts to free the American hostages in Iran and boosting Reagan in our eyes, plus, the Bush Sr Gulf War which he himself linked to the implementation of a 'New World Order'), only reveals the weak basis of implied and much-touted integrity upon which our nation totters in 2011.
Perhaps this calls for another posting of the famous video of a wonky-eyed President Bush calling for a New World Order from the well of Congress; I watched him speak on TV that night with a feeling of foreboding which has unfortunately for the world, been born out as up-to-no-good:

Rachel Maddow on Reagan's 'Riganomics' (video)
Here in northeast Georgia we're digging out of about one inch of one the fluffiest snowfalls I've seen in years (scintillatingly beautiful!) and this video of Rachel Maddow reporting on the trickle down-supply side Riganomics of Ronald Reagan and its ultimate effects may fill the bill for those who still wonder what happened to America's middle class.
Reagan's TV speech shown here in "July 1981" links directly to the Reaganomics Solar Eclipse of July 31, 1981 @ 8 Leo in the 1 North Series that we spoke of a few days ago which is the same Series as the Nostradamus-predicted August 11, 1999 'King of Terror' (or 'King of Alarm') Eclipse ('information is distorted and possibly false' - Brady.)
You know, I've always thought it was telling how in his presidential nomination campaign against Reagan, Bush Sr called trickle down theory "voo doo economics" though as Reagan's VP, Bush joined in all the self-enriching fun which their policies provided with no visible qualms at all...our national debt tripled under Reagan.
(Well, the Sabian Symbol for our nation's natal Jupiter degree of '6 Cancer' is "Game Birds Feathering Their Nests"!)
And Jupiterian comedian Rich Little at the time quipped that Reagan's economic theory with his increase in military spending, reduction of taxes on the rich, and pie-in-the-sky promise to balance the budget simultaneously would require keeping "two sets of books."
With the excessive growth of a shadow banking system and the results from "Riganomics" not being what was glowingly promised - then or now - we've seen that two sets of books may not be enough for such major slights of hand and our income inequality gap has only widened dramatically. Critics of Reaganomics were and are correct.
So hopefully you saw common-sense-promoter Rep. Dennis Kucinich on C-SPAN's Washington Journal this morning in their 8:30 to 9:00 am time slot taking calls about our economy, etc. The video isn't on the website yet (last I checked) but here's a link to Washington Journal in case you want to listen to Rep. Kucinich's remarks when the program becomes available for viewing. Or perhaps you'll catch a rerun on your TV.

It isn't often I publish a post to shout-out a new feed just added to the Stars Over Washington sidebar yet today is an important exception.
Journalist Robert Parry's articles on Ronald Reagan, particularly Ronald Reagan's 30-Year Time Bombs, are a must-reads for anyone wanting a clear-eyed assessment of the Reagan era without the false reality of the rosy glow the GOP continually applies to Reagan's public image which, they hope, gives them political cover for their current win-at-any-cost activities.
With February 6, 2011 being the 100th anniversary of Reagan's birth, I have posted several entries concerning the Reagan administration of late so when my friend Alex D'Atria sent along a link to Mr. Parry's work, I was stunned to read what in my memory more closely resembles the reality of Reagan policies which have not - no matter how often promoted - brought positive outcomes for our nation.
Yes, the Great Communicator communicated all right and it was through the propaganda tactic of "perception management" that our society began to lose its already weakened grip on reality in the power elite's hopeful preparation for a one-world-government.
No, the preparation didn't begin under Ronald Reagan but since progress is gained by taking small steps, the New World Order totalitarian types used a compliant and often naive leader whose Alzheimer's began, as has now been confirmed by his son, Ron, while the Gipper was nodding off in the White House.
Therefore, Nancy Reagan must have known at the time but had to keep mum in spite of her obvious concern about her husband's deteriorating health. Yet there were others in the Reagan administration who were willing to 'take up the slack' of the duties of the highest, most powerful office in the land.
As Mr. Parry writes, "In the early 1980s, Reagan also credentialed a young generation of neocon intellectuals, who pioneered a concept called “perception management,” the shaping of how Americans saw, understood and were frightened by threats from abroad."
From Iran Contra to Afghanistan to 9/11, Parry's article looks backward and forward at the damage done by Reagan policies and I'm certain you've noticed this year, if not last, the many references in the press to a "30-year" time frame as if the 1980s have magically led to many of the dire conditions we struggle under in 2011 - with little or no mention of just who was in the Oval Office during the promotion of such things as deregulation (financial collapse 2008), the so-called clash of civilizations (Cold War; 9/11), and other Reagan administration implementations which have, as President Obama pointed out, "changed the trajectory of America."
That's quite an understatement of subtle propaganda! With the implication being that Reagan's rhetorical lifting up of our spirits in the 1980s put our nation on a positive course while everyone knows that the trajectory has been downward for all but the power elite and their minions. Even Reagan's 'shining city on a hill' are code words for the Utopian dream of the NWO crowd of corporatists and plutocrats - and to the Freemasonry-elected establishment of the District of Columbia. These days it seems astounding to me that the Republican Party and other neocon/Zionist-based organizations continue to be so successful in rewriting history, often by the light of a nostalgic, burnished Gipper Glow. So if you even suspect for one minute that Reagan's "Morning in America" has resulted in a New Millennium 'Mourning in America', and if you believe that truth still matters, you may wish to check out Robert Parry's assessment of Reaganism and the Reagan Years of the 1980s...and what his policies have sown and reaped for our nation and the world.

The August 11, 1999 Solar Eclipse @ 18Leo21 contained the rigid energy of a Fixed Grand Cross between the Lionine Sun and Moon, Mars (Scorpio), Saturn (Taurus), Uranus (Aquarus), and North Node (AQ) which relates to Scriptural prophecy (see article w/ chart, linked above.) The separative South Node of the Moon conjoins tech-savvy Uranus in the horoscope indicating changing technological and social conditions which disrupt people's lives, wars and revolutions, and the probable financial losses such conditions bring to society.
(Bush-Cheney and the neocons began the Iraq War with Jupiter the General retrograde, a signature of a 'bottomless pit' in the Jupiterian money department and of inconclusive 'victory'.)
With Uranus/SN falling in the 6th house of Work, Health, and Service (including military and police) in the 1999 chart, we think of the era's 'free trade' deals pushed by the Clinton administration affecting US employment conditions as outsourcing of American jobs was greatly ramped up. Afflictions to the Uranus/SN pairing only made our problems deeper with Sun/Moon opposing, Mars and Saturn squaring. And of course, a Solar Eclipse is a super New Moon, a major beginning of a new cycle of activity.
Mars/Saturn = Uranus: application of brute force; intervention of a Higher Power; a test of nervous strength; sudden accident; separation or a case of death. (Ebertin.)
Now as you know, some eclipses are so powerful that the degrees they fall upon are permanently sensitized and thus it is so for 18Leo21 (18 or 19 Leo.) On 9/11/01, transiting Venus triggered the King of Terror Eclipse of 1999. Venus Rx @ 2Vir09 arises in the 1999 horoscope along with a Royal Star of Persia, Regulus (which has this year precessed from 29 Leo+ to 00Vir00 - conjunct the ASC of the 1999 eclipse horoscope. Keywords: success if revenge is avoided. It was not. A bullhorn over the rubble of the WTC in September 2011 made certain of that as our national patriotism was used to emotionally manipulate us into war in the Middle East. Wounding Chiron in the chart conjoins Mr. Obama's natal Midheaven in Scorpio.
Historically, when rulers' subjects were dissatisfied and threatening to get out of hand, the king declared war due to an 'outside threat' (ex: the SCOTUS-installed, illegitimate regime of Bush-Cheney 2001 vs Osama bin Laden, former CIA operative.) This ploy works every time and keeps the serfs busy and united under incumbent rulers no matter how corrupt they are.
So! Why do I ramble on today about a past solar eclipse?
Because the eclipse Saros Cycle repeats every 18.6 years and the 1999 eclipse (1 North Series) occurred during the very early days of the Reagan presidency, on July 31, 1981 @ '8Leo' (conjunct the natal Mercuries of the Republican Party, George W. Bush, and John McCain.) Elsewhere I have called this the Reaganomics Eclipse with its YOD planetary pattern of crisis, turning point, special task indications, what Erin Sullivan has called the Finger of God configuration.
1N initially manifested on January 4, 1639 @ 13Cap48, a time link by degree with the present solar eclipse season from the January 4, 2011 Solar Eclipse @ 13Cap38, both of which oppose US natal Sun (the leader) and our Jupiter (finances) in Cancer.
And since this blogger's natal Sun 13Cap28 is now eclipsed by the January 2011 solar lunation, perhaps that's part of why I feel compelled today to bring up the topic of the 1N eclipses of 1639, 1981, and 1999, 30 years of societal retrogression in the US, and the tiresomely over-valued presidency of globalist-for-his-time, Ronald Reagan.

A Liberal caller makes Rush sputter over Reagan (audio)
So seldom does conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh find his oft-touted "Ronaldo Magnus" script successfully interrupted by facts that I simply had to add this audio of his show from February 4, 2011 so that I may easily access it at any time for a replay. A self-described liberal, Mike Stark, calls in and leaves El Rusho on the verge of speechlessness with a simple question though Limbaugh manages to recover his poise albeit feebly (and...fade out.)

Look what turned up today as I investigate the highest ranking (Grand Master) Freemason to helm the US Presidency, Gerald Ford - a Ronald Reagan bio timeline with notable quotes, mostly concerning Reagan's Iran-Contra scandal.

Iran-Contra videos + Solar Eclipse of constitutional crisis 2011

With our Constitution under serious attack for years now, will its 'pact' with the American people be irrevocably broken as timed by the 13 South Eclipse? This would indicate much danger to our system of government - already a factor - during the second half of 2011 in particular.
That this bodes ill for America and for the Obama administration, I have few doubts, especially with 2009's worrisome void-of-course Inaugural Moon at crisis degree, an indication that little about Barack Obama's presidency will turn out as expected, if it turns out at all. Will financial collapse be probed? I knew it was You, Reagan
The Washington Independent is asking Who Will investigate the Causes of the Financial Crisis? and apparently Congress is mulling over setting up a congressional committee to investigate after all.
But the list of possible names for the panel has a few huge clunkers on the Republican side in particular, most notably former senator from Utah Jake Garn, the same financial deregulator who sponsored the Garn-St. Germain Act signed by Reagan in 1982.
This would be the act that allowed Savings & Loan Associations to run amok with speculations that led directly to the S&L collapse (from which a certain member of the Bush dynasty had to be rescued by Poppy and the American people.)
The S&L crisis was then used as justification to author the easily passed Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act which Paul Krugman cites (op-ed linked below) as putting responsibility for the current financial collapse squarely on the shoulders of President Ronald Reagan (where so much of it belongs, I agree.)
Who can forget former VP Cheney's defense of the Bush administration's and the GOP's drunken-sailor spending by saying that "Reagan proved deficits don't matter"? You'd have to go a long way to find a larger crock than that. Actually just go to Cheney's VP desk and the early Iraq war plans ("what we need is a new Pearl Harbor"), and Cheney's monkeying around with the US air defense system on the morning of 9/11/01...well, okay, you'd have a hard time choosing from the scam and crime lists of certain political cusses on 'both sides of the aisle,' as they love to say.

Sometimes Astrology can be so amazing especially when Big Events are occurring and the archetypes are acting right under our studious noses.
And, of course, you know that in Mundane Astrology (Political Astrology; Astro-Politics), Jupiter represents the Republican Party, Saturn the Democrats - which actually makes the Dems more traditional and conservative, with the Rs as the radicals with big money burning holes in their pockets if it's taxpayer money, but lining deep pockets when its theirs to pilfer. And with the Democratic Party being the older of the two, Saturn fits them on that level, too.
So what does it mean that the signing-ceremony chart's Jupiter is unaspected?

That Mr. Jupiter is acting as a law unto himself (and Reagan was acting on an unconscious level through his SN - unless Astrology had informed him - unconscious preoccupations are the hardest to transcend, as you know.)
So Jupiter isn't playing with the other actors (planets) in the scheme, a condition which emphasizes Jupiter's meaning by sign and house placement, and in this case, by the fact that this is Reagan's Jupiter in Scorpio, sign of Big Business and Wheeler-Dealing. Scorpio's natural house is the 8th of Credit, Debt, Insurance, Shared Resources, Transformation, the Occult, etc.
Jupiter in Scorpio indicates ruthless (Sco) striving for possessions and wealth (Jup), possible recklessness as bounds are over-stepped (Jup), and a tendency to delve into secret matters including the occult. Reagan's secret dealings with Iran come to mind as he orchestrated the delay of US hostages' release in Tehran and thus undermined the presidency of Jimmy Carter. Concerning the Reagans' known use of Astrology, perhaps the whole process of the finance-based bill's mark up, passage, and signing were timed with RR's Jupiter Return since this is usually an auspicious time of reward. By Reagan's "jackpot" comment mentioned above, he obviously was aware of what he was doing on a financial level, imo, and welcomed its promised abundance with which Politics had supplied him before (Jup conj SN.)

The Jupiter/Pluto cycle we're embroiled in now (Jup/Plu = plutocrats; people who tackle big projects; exploitation of the masses; wastefulness; squanderers and speculators; law and economics professors, etc - Ebertin) began in December 2007 when America's economic weaknesses began to show in the housing sector as the recession started, and the Fed announced an interest rate cut only a few minutes before Jupiter and Pluto met and conferred over drinks to discuss their very ambitious political and financial aims.
But the list of possible names for the panel has a few huge clunkers on the Republican side in particular, most notably former senator from Utah Jake Garn, the same financial deregulator who sponsored the Garn-St. Germain Act signed by Reagan in 1982.
This would be the act that allowed Savings & Loan Associations to run amok with speculations that led directly to the S&L collapse (from which a certain member of the Bush dynasty had to be rescued by Poppy and the American people.)
The S&L crisis was then used as justification to author the easily passed Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act which Paul Krugman cites (op-ed linked below) as putting responsibility for the current financial collapse squarely on the shoulders of President Ronald Reagan (where so much of it belongs, I agree.)
Who can forget former VP Cheney's defense of the Bush administration's and the GOP's drunken-sailor spending by saying that "Reagan proved deficits don't matter"? You'd have to go a long way to find a larger crock than that. Actually just go to Cheney's VP desk and the early Iraq war plans ("what we need is a new Pearl Harbor"), and Cheney's monkeying around with the US air defense system on the morning of 9/11/01...well, okay, you'd have a hard time choosing from the scam and crime lists of certain political cusses on 'both sides of the aisle,' as they love to say.
Yes, Paul Krugman's recent op-ed tells of Ronald Reagan's signing the Garn-St. Germain Act of 1982 which opened the door to the deregulation of the mortgage industry and cordially invited in the frauds of today.

Now this was during a Saturn Hour, with an unaspected Jupiter conjunct 12th cusp (a karmic spot in a chart if there ever was one - we're paying heavy debts now and into the future thanks to these past sorry actions of Reagan & pals; plus, Reagan was born with Jupiter conjunct South Node, an unconscious point in any chart, see *Jup conj SN details below)...an-n-n-d moneybags Jupiter (the Guru) had returned in 1982 to the zodiacal position held at Reagan's Feb 6, 1911 birth!
Sometimes Astrology can be so amazing especially when Big Events are occurring and the archetypes are acting right under our studious noses.
And, of course, you know that in Mundane Astrology (Political Astrology; Astro-Politics), Jupiter represents the Republican Party, Saturn the Democrats - which actually makes the Dems more traditional and conservative, with the Rs as the radicals with big money burning holes in their pockets if it's taxpayer money, but lining deep pockets when its theirs to pilfer. And with the Democratic Party being the older of the two, Saturn fits them on that level, too.
So what does it mean that the signing-ceremony chart's Jupiter is unaspected?

That Mr. Jupiter is acting as a law unto himself (and Reagan was acting on an unconscious level through his SN - unless Astrology had informed him - unconscious preoccupations are the hardest to transcend, as you know.)
So Jupiter isn't playing with the other actors (planets) in the scheme, a condition which emphasizes Jupiter's meaning by sign and house placement, and in this case, by the fact that this is Reagan's Jupiter in Scorpio, sign of Big Business and Wheeler-Dealing. Scorpio's natural house is the 8th of Credit, Debt, Insurance, Shared Resources, Transformation, the Occult, etc.
Jupiter in Scorpio indicates ruthless (Sco) striving for possessions and wealth (Jup), possible recklessness as bounds are over-stepped (Jup), and a tendency to delve into secret matters including the occult. Reagan's secret dealings with Iran come to mind as he orchestrated the delay of US hostages' release in Tehran and thus undermined the presidency of Jimmy Carter. Scorpio is also linked to betrayals, spying, and the Eagle of the US as it soars and surveys the world (from space, as it turns out. Naughty naughty Google Earth, too.)
Concerning the Reagans' known use of Astrology, perhaps the whole process of the finance-based bill's mark up, passage, and signing were timed with RR's Jupiter Return since this is usually an auspicious time of reward. By Reagan's "jackpot" comment mentioned above, he obviously was aware of what he was doing on a financial level, imo, and welcomed its promised abundance with which Politics had supplied him before (Jup conj SN.)
A Scorpionic Jupiter expands the will and one's sense of pride, while giving much subtlety to the personality. You've probably read through the years comments from those who knew him that they never really felt they "knew" him well - that even Mrs. Reagan couldn't enter all his self-absorbed ponderings. This self-absorption is part of Jupiter in Scorpio, often a moody and brooding sign.
At the North end of Reagan's natal Nodal Axis of Destiny is natal Moon 13Tau43, indicating that he was a hit with the American people for the most part (Moon conjunct US Inaugural Ascendant 13Tau+); or at least his reflection on the public image screen was pleasingly dazzling (including his film career.)

Mousavi a terrorist PM back in the day
Spy Talk is talking about Mousavi who is now being celebrated for instigating protests against Ahmadinejad's suspicious victory in Iran's June 12 election, but back in the day - the 80s - Mousavi was Iran's Prime Minister and had a hand in the terrorism that attacked the US embassy and killed US Marines in Beirut.
Seems President Reagan's Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger, derailed plans to disrupt the terroist cells that were causing US deaths. Wonder why the GOP's anointed 'saint' Reagan would want to do that?

Rush and the GOP: Blaming Obama
From Rush Limbaugh to Republicans on Capitol Hill, they're falling all over themselves in a mad race to blame Pres. Obama for the current 'recession.'
And the worse their media lapdogs can make the economy sound, the more traction they think they're gaining against Democrats and a White House now placed in Dem paws.
Plus, the old 'divide and conquer' tactic keeps we-the-people at one another's throats, so they hope - and less attentive to their pocket-lining and other sins.
As Joe Conason points out, facts are inconvenient for propaganda and the cardboard cut-out of their idol Ronald Reagan doesn't stand up well in the light of economic reality as the Blame-Carter-Clinton-Obama ploy proceeds apace.
Of course it's all propaganda to you and me - the fantasy that the financial meltdown was 'unforeseeable' and the fact that it's a script that Washington has used before would be laughable if it weren't ruining our children's futures, our nation, and the rest of the world with it.
But that's their one-world-government aims peeking through and saying Gotcha, m'peops!
Yet a few people warned Washington and Wall Street years ago (they didn't really need warning, they were busy creating massive wealth from thin air) about the fancy financial 'instruments' undermining the entire capitalist system.

As Joe Conason points out, facts are inconvenient for propaganda and the cardboard cut-out of their idol Ronald Reagan doesn't stand up well in the light of economic reality as the Blame-Carter-Clinton-Obama ploy proceeds apace.
Of course it's all propaganda to you and me - the fantasy that the financial meltdown was 'unforeseeable' and the fact that it's a script that Washington has used before would be laughable if it weren't ruining our children's futures, our nation, and the rest of the world with it.
But that's their one-world-government aims peeking through and saying Gotcha, m'peops!
Yet a few people warned Washington and Wall Street years ago (they didn't really need warning, they were busy creating massive wealth from thin air) about the fancy financial 'instruments' undermining the entire capitalist system.

Lehman Brothers crisis - of 1984
Update November 19, 2019: Its link is now dead so I've removed a link that had led to an article by Sam Marcy, explaining the root cause of the Lehman Brothers crisis - of 1984.
Reaganites thought that the 'capitalist recovery' would save them if they could hang on until after the election in spite of Middle East adventurism, war in Central America, and other nefarious US dealings in the world.
Democrats were emphasizing the federal deficit and high interest rates - meanwhile 11 million Americans were unemployed with as many more partially unemployed. Sound familiar yet?
Sam Marcy's article was from April 26, 1984 and details David Rockefeller's Trilateral Commission as it was warmly greeted by its previous opponent, Ronald Reagan, when they met in Washington DC just before the article was written.
If it were available you cold read how Mr. Marcy refers to the Trilateralists as "this supernationalist body of imperialist politicians, bankers, and industrialists." He goes on, "Never was interest in the state of the economy as high as it is now. Never before were all the lines between Wall Street and Washington so intimately tied together."
Well, they became more intimate, as we know.
And with the upcoming transit of restrictive Saturn to America's natal Neptune in 9th house of Philosophy (the 'grim reality' transit) it popped out on the page when I read Marcy's statement that, "Beneath the aura of optimism, there suddenly comes like a flood of light, the grim reality of the state of the capitalist system. This happened just last week when one of the most powerful investment and banking combines in this country - the 134-year-old Lehman Brothers, Kuhn-Loeb - was forced to sell out to an even larger financial octopus, the mammoth Shearson-American Express."
This sent a "quake through the entire structure of finance capital," says Marcy.
Now it's 24 years later - two Jupiter cycle$ - and the recovery of the 90s now reveals capitalism's instability in the New Millennium as we contemplate Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism which tells the tale even more starkly and from a later perspective, of course.

Obama on The View today
This morning I managed to catch Barack Obama on The View and I've written some reminiscences on the experience here for anyone who managed to miss the performance.
In what we once called junior high school (grades 7 & 8) there was a game I played only once for it seemed excruciating to me. It was called Lemon Twist and the gist is that one person sat in the middle of a circle of young ladies who then gave their worst assessments of the one-in-the-middle.
Well, Obama was in the middle of The View's sofa this morning but didn't come off too damaged--actually more like Lemon Meringue Pie than twisted.
He once again defended Pastor Wright as expected and ended with an offer of his wife as their next vict--er, guest, because Michelle would, he asserted, "dish the dirt."
Oh dear. Wouldn't that be handing ammunition to the Rove-Limbaugh 'Operation Chaos' intitative which is already working quite nicely for John McCain who needs all the help he can get?
Now I have gracious plenty natal planets in Capricorn so respect for Wise Ones advanced in years is no small part of my personality.
But I must ask if the video I saw early this week of McCain paying respects to grand dame Nancy Reagan (and thereby linking himself with Ronald, he hopes) was a helpful view of him as he escorted a doddering lady when he looked just as doddering himself? Was she holding him up or vice versa? It made me wonder...but even if incorrect, the impression was given.
Yes, America does prefer younger presidents when she can get them--or at least those who don't look as if they're about to keel over at any moment. Agism is alive and well in the US.
Yet the bickering and name-calling between Hill and Bar is starting to look as if they WANT to lose to a war-promoting dodderer.
Guess that's understandable though--look what they'll inherit from the get-go--America's wealth has got up and went and the (supposed) Dem plans of retreat from Iraq will be a lesson in humility--a lesson which the objects in need of it will ignore as they kick back on the porch...fattened and self-satisfied till the end.

'Reaganomics' has its own Solar Eclipse
Whew! It took longer than expected--and I do plead guilty to composing at keyboard (with Jupiter oriental I prefer spontaneity in work scenarios) but my Reaganomics Eclipse Page is up now at Jude's Threshold if you'd care to peek.
Yes, it's a bit of a walk down memory lane from the 1980s--except that its sorriness is still causing trouble in 2008.

NH paper: don't vote for Romney
The New Hampshire paper, The Concord Monitor, has an editorial Romney should not be the next president for although he "looks" like him, he shouldn't be him.
From Romney's "chilling" rhetoric on doubling the US prison at Gitmo (its size, I assume he means) to his refusal to classify waterboarding as torture--or to say that the US won't use it--the Monitor's editorial team has put things in perspective at a time when New Hampshirites may be leaning toward Reaganesque hair styles, adman smoothness, and crisp dark suits.
Well, I'm glad they published this editorial which reminds everyone that the old GOP bromides of spending cuts and lower taxes won't be enough in 2008 to carry a former management consultant (whose experience consists of advising corporations on how to reinvent themselves) into the Venusian Oval Office.
"Looking presidential" and in Romney's case, "like Ronald Reagan" shouldn't be enough either. So are Americans that superficial? Some say we are, yet few citizens would disagree that America is loitering at the crossroads thanks to neocon dreams of dominating and policing the world.
Andrew Sullivan, speaking on America's torturing of prisoners, said today on The Chris Matthews Show that historically 2007 will go down as the year we realized that "America has lost its soul." Meanwhile, showing their own superficiality, most of the mainstream media keep passing the hairspray can to Edwards and on to Romney.
Restore America's moral leadership in the world? Not with Romney who seems perfectly happy with the status quo on that issue (as does Guiliani--a Bushesque braggart to watch out for if there ever was one. And his health is fine, says Rudy.)
And how Mitt Romney's repackaging of his own image has succeeded in the faith department is questionable--there must have been many intense, late-night meetings on that issue with family values appearing as the obvious rock to hide behind. As the Monitor editorial emphasizes, Romney's "turnarounds" are based on his own ambitions.
Come to think of it, Reagan used the family values card as well--I remember how his divorced status was a big issue--seems a rather quaint concern in retrospect.
Yes, New Hampshire folk have always prided themselves on being able to see through phony candidates, and in the case of Mitt Romney, I heartily agree with the Concord Monitor's conclusions on this candidate and hope you will read their editorial if you haven't already.
It seems to me the NH primary voters' decision concerning Mitt Romney should be easy as Double Fudge Pie with airy whipped cream on top.
